Flexibility in scheduling

Dec 3, 2020, 12:25 PM

Some ESPNU radio guys (either Kanell/McElroy or Luginbill/Sallee) pointed out that one benefit of the nutty 2020 season is that teams have learned how to be more flexible with scheduling games. In the past, out-of-conference games were set 10 years in advance (or more), but in 2020 games are being scheduled on the fly (e.g. Coastal-BYU).

Scheduling OOC games a year at a time allows for playing teams of somewhat equal caliber; that way rebuilding programs can avoid getting boat raced by a team like Clemson or Alabama. The Clemson-LSU games in 2025-2026 looked to be really compelling when viewed at the end of 2019, but not so much right now [from the standpoint of a neutral observer]. The ACC-Big 10 Challenge in basketball is a good example of pairing teams of equal caliber on a yearly basis.

Somebody got a fax number so I can get the ball rolling on this?

Why do dogs always race to the door when the doorbell rings? It's almost never for them.
