2019 Tigers vs 2020 Tigers

Dec 22, 2020, 10:27 AM

Which is the stronger team at this same point in the year?

2019
O- We had Ross and Higgins
D- We had Simmons, but our D was not as strong up front.

2020
O- Rogers has really become a threat. Williams is a nice improvement
D- Our front is strong with a healthy team.

Fairly even but punting has been better year.

Not sure if the stats would back this up, but my impression is that we have a more well rounded defense but a less well rounded offense.

I'm guessing by "less well rounded offense" you mean the passing game has been better but the running game worse preventing us from having lots of balance.

Now think about the fact that we still have ETN and that the WR group was supposed to hurt the passing game instead of it getting better.

If the OL plays like they did in Charlotte we could be in for a treat.

If the OL regresses to what they have been in some previous games this season, we could struggle.

Yeah, OL play is obviously going to be a big determining

factor. The OL play Saturday against ND looked what we've come to expect out of it in other years. If we get OL like that in the playoff we will be tough for anyone to beat.

I am hoping that a big difference in this playoff is that our go-to WRs are healthy for the playoff run.

Ross and Higgins came into the OSU game slightly banged up and left much worse for their wear.

If you add in that Amari was probably the #3 threat last season and he still wasn't quite at full speed when the season ended, we are much healthier at the moment even without Ladson (who did play in Charlotte) or Ngata than we were last season at this time.

I think with Simmons & Terrell losses, we have added strength in other areas to try to mask those missing pieces and I hope it's an overall improvement but it's hard to say at this point.

I think peak 2019 may have been better than peak 2020

Dec 22, 2020, 10:40 AM

but we got beat up at the wrong time last year (playoffs), and this year we seem to finally be getting healthy going into the playoffs.

I wonder if OSU will be all healed up after their grueling gauntlet of a season.

On the flip side of that, they don't seem to have been able

to gel as a team this year. They may have gotten a little more beat up if they had played 4 or 5 more games, but they also may have had more time to fine tune stuff.
