Bristol, CT (AP News) - After a meeting with ESPN brass, the College Football Playoff Selection Committee has decided that only SEC teams will now be eligible for the top 14, with only SEC West teams allowed in the top 7. Committee chairman Jeff Long said, "This is for the best for several reasons. First, the ESPN announcers will no longer have to pay lip service to the other, inferior leagues. It will allow for much more talk about the awesomeness of the SEC across the family of ESPN channels. ESPN can now dedicate 24-7 discussion of the SEC, instead of the 23-7 that they've been able to provide to date. Also, a great burden has been lifted from the committee members' shoulders as we no longer have to watch of all of those games not involving an SEC team - trust me, it was awful." Chris Fowler issued a statement saying, "This is huge for ESP, errr, the SEC Network."
The anticipated poll to be resulted to night is below. Note the committee also decided to change the name of the Top 25 poll to the Top 14 poll since non-SEC teams are irrelevant.
