Does anyone think Death Valley will ever get up to 100,000 fans

Dec 7, 2016, 6:15 PM

I would love to see it

Dec 7, 2016, 6:19 PM

No need

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

No I dont think that will happen...but I do see another

Dec 7, 2016, 6:50 PM

2000 maybe 3000 seats to get Death Valley in the mid-80s one day. Frankly the next major improvements to Death Valley will be cosmetics and amenities.
Love to see an EZ/ hill improvement and expansion where the corners are expanded and a sky walk added to connect the corners over the hill and with a larger video screen.

I swear I remember back in the mid-80's when I was going there seeing in the Clemson House lobby a mock-up of a stadium expansion with one of the end zones with an upper deck that had 100,000 seats.

I think it would be awesome would make the coots sick too

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Yep, it was there. Basically, the west endzone was turned

Dec 7, 2016, 8:20 PM [ in reply to Re: Does anyone think Death Valley will ever get up to 100,000 fans ]

into a horseshoe connecting the north and south upper decks.

I was disappointed that the west endzone project didn't leave that opportunity open.

badge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

If we could expand to 90 and average that for awhile

Dec 7, 2016, 6:40 PM

we could have that conversation.

I'm not sure we are big enough for it. But who knows.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

They been adding some temp seating the last year or two on

Dec 7, 2016, 6:44 PM

the East end zone.

I could see some permanent seating going on the both corners of the east end zone. That could get us to 85k or 90k (depending how far in they come).

I'm just not sure how many more they can fit in and keep the current aesthetic intact.

BTW, before the West end zone, we use to count the hill as 6,000 people. Now we count it as 4,000. So our capacity is actually about the same, or slightly more than it was previously.

Re: Does anyone think Death Valley will ever get up to 100,000 fans

Dec 7, 2016, 6:49 PM

I think it would be cool if they left the hill but built an upper deck over it that joined the north and south upper decks.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I've read the two sides can't completely be joined

Dec 7, 2016, 7:01 PM

With that said, i'm sure they could get close.

2024 white level memberbadge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Noooooooo

Dec 8, 2016, 8:23 AM [ in reply to Re: Does anyone think Death Valley will ever get up to 100,000 fans ]

It would ruin the beautiful view of campus, and the great views into the stadium. The amazing walk down fort hill would be ruined.

I really doubt there is enough room anyway without taking out the road. Im all for something over the WEZ if we ever needed it though.

No

Dec 7, 2016, 7:06 PM

Only feasible for a couple of games per year at best.

We have plenty of seats now and the problem is that about 20% of those seats are terrible.

Re: Does anyone think Death Valley will ever get up to 100,000 fans

Dec 7, 2016, 7:22 PM

I agree no. We do good to feel the stadium with some of the teams we play. Also in most cases people just do not want to sit in the top part of the upper deck at CU. You are up so high and the stadium goes away from the field that the seat are just terrible in my opinion. I almost believe I would stay home and watch on TV before I sat in the upper deck.

2024 white level memberbadge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

now this is truly nonsense

Dec 7, 2016, 9:02 PM

In the upper deck you can see holes develop and plays unfold. I hate sitting too close. You can't see anything

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

It all depends on how high up you are.

Dec 8, 2016, 9:01 AM

I have seats down low on the 50 and on the first row of the upper deck. I prefer to sit in the latter because of what you said. However, the seats in the top part of the upper deck are atrocious.

Dec 7, 2016, 9:18 PM [ in reply to Re: Does anyone think Death Valley will ever get up to 100,000 fans ]

The design of our stadium was ill conceived. Someone convinced them that more sideline seats are better, but no one told them that after you reach a certain altitude, it no longer matters. The top of the upper deck at Death Valley is an abysmal place to watch a game.

To each his own. I love sitting in the upper deck. I hate end zone seating

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Doubtful - with basically all of our home games on..........

Dec 7, 2016, 7:10 PM

TV now there's not the same type of demand for tickets there used to be. Plus, the cost of expansion is terrific although I think money would be found if the decision's made to expand DV.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Have you driven through campus lately?

Dec 7, 2016, 7:52 PM

The student body will increase by 10,000 pretty rapidly and EVER is a VERY LONG TIME.

Re: Have you driven through campus lately?

Dec 7, 2016, 8:21 PM

With every game now on TV it's unlikely. Although Clemson sold out its season tickets, the final year's attendance was down 3% from 2015.

I would love to see all the aluminum gone and about 80k seatbacks.
That would look awesome and make DV look like a pro stadium
The recruits would love it

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I think we would lose about 3-4 seats per row if we did that

Dec 7, 2016, 7:39 PM

We'd be under 75K in capacity.

Jess Neely doesn't think so. But then, he thought 20,000 seats would be enough, so what the hell does he know?

2024 purple level memberbadge-donor-15yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I am pretty sure when they built the West End Zone that they made it so

Dec 8, 2016, 6:33 AM

That seats and it could hold more if expansion was needed I don't know how many more seats that is but I'm sure it's at least another five to ten thousand seats.

Dec 8, 2016, 8:27 AM

The bones of the stadium are really good. I think we could do something like Texas A&M did minus the expansion. Add really nice brick facades to every thing. Nicer larger bathrooms, better concession areas, maybe cover parts of the upper deck, just make everything seamless with the WEZ.
