... On offensive line are about 1 full yd behind the center. Not sure if it gives an advantage, but if so, maybe other teams should do the same?

Hmm...interesting. I don't know the rule on that, but I would imagine it would give quite an advantage in shotgun since the rest of the line would have more time to position and adjust when they bring extra rushers.

Anyone know the rules for how teams are supposed to line up and if they are all supposed to be on or near the line with the center at ball?

You have to break an imaginary plane that goes through the center’s waist to be considered on the line, so you can be a ways back.

That extra step allows the offensive line to read what the defensive line is trying to do. If the offensive line can read their 1st step. It makes blocking a lot easier.

Seems like I noticed bama O Line doing that against us last season and it caused our D Line to get called a couple times for lining up offsides.
