Does Louisville have a better offense than anyone we've

Oct 16, 2019, 7:47 PM

played up to this point?

I'm impressed by the 62 points they scored against Wake.

I don't know how good Wake truly is yet, but 62 points against a power 5 team is impressive no matter how you slice it.

I think Louisville's offense is clearly capable of scoring a lot, but I don't expect them to score over 20-25 against us.

I think so.

They seem very disciplined and have speed.

I’d say so. 2-3 years ago they recruited at a high level and its paying dividends. Maybe comparable to Tahj Boyd early years but D a little worse than we had then.

Probably the most...

challenging offense the Tigers have faced thus far...fortunately, our defense is the best they've faced. It will be an interesting game...hope our defense creates many turnovers & offense goes crazy.

We may need to play the starters on defense

longer than we did against anyone except UNC on defense. If Wake can score 59 on them, we should be able to do at least that well.

Yes, but.

Against Wake, they had a 101-yard kick return, an 85-yard kick return and a 50-yard punt return. Those won't happen with BT launching kicks and Speires punting away from returners.

Their skill people are cat-quick and very shifty, though they can be tackled with arm tackles--except for the big guy who definitely cannot.

They play fast, loose and very confidently, even the backups. (They are on their #2 and #3 QBs.) Their uptempo pace neutralizes BV's playcalling and can really slow down a pass rush that relies on blitzing and can outright punish a team if we blitz poorly.

The OL can be beat by standard pass rush, but our pocket discipline will be critical. A DE that rushes too far upfield creates a scramble lane these 2 QBs can exploit. Containment is critical, and if BV has Simmons spying alone he will have his hands full.

They throw to the backs coming out of the backfield, which has really hurt us a few times this year.

They have surprised me with their discipline so far this year. They are playing hard for 60 minutes, even when behind, with far fewer penalties than I'm used to from them.

Of course, the biggest problem with their offense is the fact that no matter whether the possession ends with TD, FG, punt or turnover, the defense is back on the field in less than 2 game minutes.

And our offense should destroy that defense.

I expect we will give up more yards, plays and points than anyone else will score on us this year. But BV may have some trick up his sleeve to thwart the RPO, which would change everything.
