Look, I don't want to defend this stuff. I have not been able to find the research from which it was pulled, so I have no context for this stuff. And the principle who sent it home has missed the mark, but allow me to Try to propose a possible basis to do something more than just ridicule this.
I think that all people in America (& elsewhere) encompass some degree of racial or ethnic prejudice. It may range from actual hatred of other groups to some mild form of inaccurate or unfair assumptions about them. Tribalism has long been ingrained in human beings and it is not easy to over come. Racial prejudice is just the most pervasive of these tribal divisions (in America, at least).
Now I would place people along a continuum from most to least prejudiced, but Dr. Hesse has attempted to create categories and labels. Again, I am not sure why because I cannot find the original research. If someone could point me in that direction, it would be appreciated.
The categorization and the attempt to label each category - along with descriptions is where this things seems to get off of the rails. I think we all know people who are more - and less - racially prejudiced than us. So the attempt to describe a degree of prejudice is better than just a racist and a non-racist box, but this seems particularly clumsy, at least without context.
One last thing, if we all COULD admit that we had some racial prejudice in our hearts, then maybe we could use our heads to ameliorate prejudiced thoughts and actions. Maybe we each could become less racially prejudiced. It seems like that would be a good thing for us and for US.
