Dementia is a #####

T's and P's would be appreciated for my family gentlemen. Yesterday was a long day.
My grandfather kind of unexpectedly passed away yesterday morning. We knew it was coming, we just didn't know it would be yesterday. He told my grandmother before she went out the door to help me bring my son in that he was going home. When she got back in there he had passed.
This man beat colon cancer in the early 90's. Then he beat non-Hodgkin lymphoma in the early 2000's, then he beat Giuliani-Barre syndrome not long after that. Only 18% of his heart worked from all of the chemo he had during his life.
What finally got him was dementia. We watched him slowly wither away over the course of a couple of years.
He loved his family and especially my children (his great grands) and would sit in his chair and read them stories.
We are tired physically and emotionally and still have the funeral tomorrow.
Would appreciate the T's and P's our way.

It is cruel how long dementia lasts, how slow it progresses, and how it is severe at times, then almost unnoticable at other times. But it also highlights the connection between the body and the mind. When the mind goes, so will the body, one way or another.
May you find comfort knowing he's resting now in peace, and that you too can now have peace.
