Defensive line play

Did anyone get the impression that our defensive line got manhandled against UVa? Could not get off blocks.

We are without our 3 best defensive lineman. Both of our starting defensive ends are out, as well as one of our starting DTs. I also noticed that we ran a lot of 3 man fronts against UVA, with one of our DEs (KJ and Myles) lined up as a LB. it was a weird defensive alignment. I don’t think we played that poorly, but instead, the performance was also a product of the scheme and the fact that we were without our 3 best defensive lineman.

Almost got the impression they were sandbagging a bit. Actually had more sacks against UVA this game than we did in last years ACC Championship game 3 vs 2

Did you not notice that our two veterans (Davis and XT) were out of the game? We get Davis back for Miami, look for a noticeable improvement on the D Line.

When you play freshman against a veteran OL like Virginia's, all in all, we did pretty well. The real defensive issue was LB's not filling gaps and missed tackles/bad angles at safety.

Also worth noting that UVA's offensive line is pretty good. I think I saw they average about 315 lbs and are made up of juniors and seniors. That wasn't a slack offensive line.
