Judging from that pic, you must have been part of the 43,000 that are getting the 1.7 million dollar check. Good on you if so.

This is the most I’ve ever gotten back.

We will all be paying for it later however, it’s much needed for many in the short term.

Yeah, you got that right. They really need to close that loophole on the 43k millionaires. Think Forbes said it adds up to 90 billion.

Anyway, our church have started gathering names of families that really need it and we're trying to get everyone that received it to donate back to fams that really got hurt bad.

You should donate part of that to me since I am on a retirement pension. I need it for sunscreen, gas for my boat, a new fishing rod or two, snacks, soft drinks, bait and tackle, and I will need to pay someone to clean my fish. Greatly appreciated. When can I expect to receive it so I can line up another fishing trip ?

Here's a quandary:

Apr 15, 2020, 5:20 PM

1) If you qualify based on your 2019 AGI and receive a check but don't cash it,
2) but then make too much money to qualify in 2020, then
3) you could owe part of it back with your 2020 taxes. You'll have to prove you didn't cash it, and not count on the government to keep track.

It's a tax credit for 2020. Also, if you are close to qualifying based on 2019, you could do things to reduce your AGI for 2020 (increase 401k pretax, increase HSA contributions, take investment losses, etc.) to receive the credit as part of a 2020 refund.

I have no issues with making too much money in 2020. 1700 I guess could buy me a nice new toy, but I am not going to apply for it, and already had my return mailed to me.

badge-donor-10yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

If you can qualify, take it

Apr 15, 2020, 10:12 PM

It’s a tax credit and there are going to be other years where you pay more than your share. It may be automatic anyway with your 2020 return, depending on how they handle it.

the problem with wanting more is that you can never have enough

Apr 16, 2020, 12:19 AM

and I pay my taxes proudly, I am happy with what I have. I do well enough and have never taken a dime from our government outside of a free primary education and the occasional traffic cone I stole in college.

Enjoy I guess. Most business owners such as myself don’t qualify because of the way we have to file taxes, even though my salary qualifies. I’m sure they’ll find a way for small business owners to pay for your windfall.
