Cure Bowl - Liberty vs. Coastal Carolina Dec 26. Bowl Updates

Dec 20, 2020, 4:52 PM

Only reason this matters is that Liberty was originally projected to play the Coots in the Union Home Mortgage Gasparilla Bowl on the same day. That bowl is still open.

That's crappy ..... hoping Coastal would play more of a traditional Power 5 team. Guess with all the conference tie-in, that wasn't going to happen.

I didn't even notice that with this and Florida not dropping in the polls like they should have Coastal gets screwed twice.

Liberty had to pull out due to Covid. That's what gave BYU the opportunity to play in Conway as a last-minute replacement opponent on the day Coastal hosted Game Day.

This is a renewal of a great rivalry. CCU and Liberty were huge rivals during their coexistence in the Big South.

Most of the rivalry was positive until Coastal refused to endorse Liberty's application to the Sun Belt. That reheated the negative side of the rivalry. With turned over staffs and both schools trying to create winning cultures, not sure how much tension lingers from those days.

I looked it up. They have not met this year.

Liberty is 2-1 this season against the ACC. They beat Cuse and VT but lost to NC St.
