Complete Breakdown of Power 5 Offers for 2021

May 29, 2020, 11:01 AM

TNet's article about offers yesterday made me want to expand on that data and see every Power 5 school's offers. I typed out all 65 P5 teams offers by position (only way to do it with 247's data) and totaled them up; here's some nuggets. If you're curious about anything more specific, ask and I'll figure it out!

Most Total Offers
1 Tennessee 448 (most in SEC)
2 Kansas 415 (most in B12)
3 Nebraska 376 (most in B10)
4 Kentucky 376
5 Louisville 373 (most in ACC)
11 Arizona St 306 (most in PAC12)

Fewest Total Offers
1 Stanford 52 (fewest in PAC12)
2 Clemson 70 (fewest in ACC)
3 UCLA 80
4 Washington 87
5 TCU 98 (fewest in B12)
8 Iowa 100 (fewest in B10)
24 Mizzou 202 (fewest in SEC)

Average Offers By Conference
ACC 249
B10 231
B12 206
PAC12 172
SEC 270

Most Offers By Position
QB Kentucky 26
RB Tennessee 44
WR Tenn/Kansas 88 (tie)
OL Indiana 62
DL Tennessee 101
LB Kansas 51
DB Kansas 87
ST Nebraska 30

Fewest Offers By Position
QB Wash/Stan 1
RB Stanford 3 (and we stole one in Shipley lol)
WR Stanford 7
OL Washington 8
DL Clemson 9
LB NW 4
DB UCLA 7
ST Stanford 1

Average Offers By Position, All Power 5
QB 11
RB 16
WR 48
OL 32
DL 43
LB 22
DB 42
ST 14

My thoughts: Call Jeremy Pruitt and Les Miles and tell them you've held a football before, and you'll get offers to Tennessee and Kansas five business days later. Especially if you're a defensive lineman thinking about Tennessee: 101 offers?! Absurd. An offer from them means NOTHING. Wasn't surprised to see the SEC offer the most on average, but was surprised to see the ACC not too far behind in most offers on average. The PAC12 schools don't offer ANYONE. Only 172 per school, and they have four of the seven P5 schools that have offered less than 100 kids. The other three are Clemson, TCU, and NW. I thought 169 offers by OSU was low.

Finally, 6% of Stanford's P5-low 52 offers are committed to Clemson (3). Almost makes me feel bad.

Hope you had fun looking at some nerd football stuff! Go Tigers!

What this tells me is that Tennessee

only offers high character, academically sound young men.

Tennessee uses the Spaghetti Strategery in recruiting.

They just throw a whole bunch of offers at the wall and hope some of them stick.

Great research! I am surprised that the average number of OL who were offered were so much lower than the average number of offers made to DL - since the number of OL positions (5) are greater than the number of DL positions (3-4).

It may also be interesting to look at the number of offers, by position, in the top 300 of 247. My guess would be the three top positions will be WR, DL, DB (based on your data).

I looked a little but it's hard to say the way their data is

It's not practical to list out that many "numbers of offers" the way 247 and Rivals are set up. But what I saw initially is that you're probably right, and that defensive tackles had more offers than the ends, interestingly enough. But take that with a grain of salt; it's a smaaaaaall sample size.

When Tennessee sends out an offer by mail it's probably addressed to "Henry Topstar or current resident".
