Clemson vs. O310 season stats (good info, long)

Dec 21, 2020, 4:51 PM

I hardly ever post, mainly just read. Anyways, my thoughts about the Playoff...

For what its worth, here are some interesting stats Clemson vs. OSU, BAMA, ND.

Offense (season averages courtesy of ESPN stats):

Clemson (507 yds/game, Passing 343 yds/game, rushing 163 yds/game)11th overall
OSU (529yds/game, Passing 253 yds/game, rushing 275 yds/game)6th overall
Bama (543 yds/game,Passing 354 yds/game, 189 yds/game) 5th overall
ND (455 yds/game, passing who cares, rushing who cares)22nd overall

Defense:

Clemson (allowing 298 yds/game, 198 passing, 99 rushing) 6th overall
OSU (allowing 358 yds/game, 261 passing, 97 rushing) 34th overall
Bama (allowing 351 yds/game, 244 passing, 107 rushing) 33rd overall
ND: who cares but they were 21st overall

Remarkable how close Clemson and Bama appear to be, I guess no real shock there. I am simply don't care about ND.

As for OSU...seems like the keys are as follows:
1) We must win strength on strength...our RUSH D vs. their RUSHING. The kid Sermon is good and Fields can run. Davis, Murphy, Bresee, Henry, Skalski and company must do their thing.

2) Our strength vs. their weakness....our PASSING vs. their PASS D. Trevor is a clear difference maker here.

3) Not in the stats but for whatever reason, I feel our COACHING is an advantage. IN DABO/CBV WE TRUST!

Hopefully we get to Bama and I expect an all out slugfest if we get Clemson/Bama round 4(5semi).

Go Tigers!

OcryO State's defense is hot garbage...

and they will get smoked against any quality offense.

It's very telling when you have to rely on Northwestern and Indiana to prop-up your SOS.

Sometimes good things fall apart so better things can fall together.

I too hardly ever post, and mainly read.
However when I respond to a topic I like to play "Devil's Advocate".
So, in regards to your post; None of this matters.
The only "STAT" that matters is the final score. It has always been that way. Always will be.
I could care less if they get a safety, and we respond with a field goal.
If they pass for 200 yards, and we run for 200 yards, it's not going to matter if they kick the PAT and we miss.
People are already talking about Clemson OSU last year.
Thank God 2019 is not 2020.I don't think we could take two years of Covid 19.
It doesn't matter if OSU only played 6 games, and we played 12.They are in.
Two games. Your team has a 50/50 chance in the first game. Their team has a 50 /50 chance.
You win, you advance. You lose, you get ready for 2021.
Oh, and for all you political pundits out there;
I approved this message.

Thats all well and good...

And I agree that we only need to score 1 more point than them.

The point was the things that I mentioned will help us score 1 more point.

Stats like rushing and passing efficiency will lead one team or the other to the ultimate "stat."

So I beg to differ and believe that this stuff does matter, certainly matters to the coaches who are trying to game plan.

Stick to reading.

I hope the coaches scheme well in the passing attack. I remember last year against Ohio State and LSU, the passing calls were mainly jump balls and low percentage completions, thus why clemson struggled passing the ball both games. I hope to see a lot of passes to the country because Trevor throws those very well and hopefully work the tight ends in the middle as well.
