Clemson Winning

Nov 27, 2018, 1:40 AM

Dabo had to do the unthinkable Sunday... Call out the "Fans". I grew up from my parents driveway to the university it took 15 minutes. I have danced in the streets of church street with the cheerleaders for the citrus bowl. I've seen at that same bowl some of the worst Clemson losses. I was born and able to understand the game of football at the tail end of the Ford era. I saw hatfield win with mostly Ford's players (my opinion) and then I saw West come in and actually riding down the hill (yes the hill) in the first quarter with my friends during home games because nobody was there (not even most students).

I've seen the rise and fall with Bowden and my family and I have never stopped supporting and giving to this University. During South Carolina's 3 years 11 win seasons, I saw so many "fans" come out from under rocks proclaiming to be Carolina fans that I never knew even followed Carolina from afar. I see after 6 years the Golden State Warriors have more fans now than they have ever had in the first 29 years of my existence. The reason why people gravitate to winning and those "fairweather", "bandwagon" fans that switch from the USC of the early 2000s, The Alabama, Miami, ect... start coming to our team and it's like a mosh pit they want to jump in the middle and yell and scream that they are Clemson.

In reality, they aren't Clemson and never will be because when Clemson does have a couple losses a year they will jump but WE will still be here supporting.

I am a member of a few of the social media groups for Clemson tigernet being one, I bleed orange and tigers for life. I look at half those post and think to myself those are not even real Clemson fans saying all this stuff. 63-17 is great, 56-7 is great, 3-0 is great too. Because that is a win against our state rival. I thought about keeping my mouth shut and I don't really post much on here. A lot of times I read posts but come to look at weekly updates that this site gives from the team.

I don't care if this team beats Pitt by 100 or by 1 all I know it's a win and I'll be #### happy come late Saturday/early Sunday morning to know we are ACC champs for 4 years straight something I have not seen in the 29 years being able to understand and follow the game of football.

To all the true fans that understand this game all I can say is GO Tigers!! I love the success we are having! To the other fans... I don't care if you have decided to accept Clemson as your favorite team. I just hope you take the time to respect and understand the Clemson way. That way hasn't changed from 3-8 seasons to 12-0. It's about respect and being humble of who you are. Yall have a great day! Sorry for the long-winded post if you read all this

Yep, if we ever go 7-5, they'll be calling for Dabo's head again. When Tigernet was blazing with "fire Dabo," I was saying that I had rather lose with Dabo than win with slurrier.

I have yet to meet 1 person (non gamecock) who was unsatisfied with the win.

Geville Tiger on Clemson football , "Dabo's only problem is he has to deal with turd fans questioning every move he makes.”

Thank you BerkeleyTiger, I feel the same way.

I'm a bit older than you but am a 3rd generation Tiger. My grandfather graduated in 1925, 2 years behind Strom Thurmond. My father graduated in 1952 after serving in the Marines during the Korean War. And I graduated in 1976. I can remember listening to Jimmy Coggins, then the voice of the Tigers and from my home town of Newberry, broadcast the games of Frank Howard's Tigers on our AM radio. I was 16 years old before I got to see my first Clemson game but I was hooked. I attended every home game while in college, and have attended almost every home game since 1980. I agonized during the 60's and 70's, rejoiced during the Ford era, and agonized again in the dark years that followed. We began to emerge under Bowden, and Dabo took us to the top of the mountain again.

If Saturday felt like a loss to some, they should have been there in Atlanta when Alabama beat us 34-10, or in Jacksonville when Michael Vick & Va Tech beat us 41-20, or in Jacksonville when Matt Cavanaugh and Pitt beat us 34-3, or in Jacksonville when Donovan McNabb and Syracuse beat us 41-0 or in Death Valley when Tanneyhill and the Coots beat us 33-7. Friends, THOSE felt like losses.

A win is a win is a win, no matter how pretty or ugly. To go undefeated is a rare feat. And if some can't savor the win, and can only harp on the negatives, I wish them nothing but stomach acid.

Thank you for your post - very well said. I am a second generation fan (Dad was Class of '57 and I was '87.) That Syracuse loss in the Gator Bowl was the worst game I have ever sat through - cold, driving rain and we were miserable. These past ten years have been beyond my wildest dreams! Go Tigers and beat Pitt!

Very interesting, HowardsBoy! My Dad was Class of '57 and I was Class of '87. And, like you, I was at that horrible Gator Bowl against Syracuse. I caught strep throat and the flu during that miserable trip!!

I recall that there were to be two ferry trips to get us Clemson folks back across the river, but everyone squeezed on the first one to get the heck out of there! I was afraid we were going to capsize, but even that was a better fate than staying after the game. :)

Great Post!!! Reading it I was taking a trip down memory lane as I was at all the games you mentioned too except the beatdown by Alabama when Bowden was coach. I also remember being at a Peach Bowl where Dameyuene Craig and Co from Aubie beat us! Look what he is up to now in Jimbo's new stomping grounds... our players are great ambassadors for the University.

Graduated in '84, before that I remember being seated next to the "Fridge" in class and cheering on our first natty!!! IPTAY member for 36 years and still can't get priority tickets to away games. Too many high roller fair weather fans like BerkeleyTiger referenced.

This period of Clemson football is the greatest ever despite the last Pitt loss - it seems like such an anomaly - and was the only game I was able to attend in 2016. BOO HOO (sarc) WE WILL GET OUR REVENGE FOR THAT ON SATURDAY

Last winter in New Orleans we suffered through another Alabama loss (I can't stand those snobby fans)...but I will never stop rooting for and supporting my TIGERS!! Win lose or tie!!! GET SOME REVENGE FOR THAT TOO COME JANUARY

Well said.

I grew up two blocks away from Frank Howard and have been a Tiger forever. Only team I watch every game. I could not be happier with the state of our program and the University.

I wasn't on here over the weekend much

Nov 27, 2018, 1:01 PM

so didn't get to state my opinion. Initially my thoughts on how much yardage and points the D gave up was that I was pretty frustrated, but then when I woke up on Sunday I was just happy to by 12-0 and on to the next game.

Therfore, I agree with what you said. Also, it's kinda funny because I have been following the program for about the same amount of time.

Nov 27, 2018, 2:19 PM

I understand completely thinking about the defensive miscoverages but at the end of Day like you said smiling we are 12-0.

Most of it was more on social media rather than on here. I think some people think I was talking about here on tnet but in reality it was these pop up new tiger fan Facebook pages.

Well if it’s the same time we might have slid down the hill together HaHa!

I heard somewhere (but Google is no help verifying it now) that no Power 5 team has ever won 4 consecutive conference titles. If true, Clemson will be in a class all its own.
