Dead cops at riots

So, following the Capitol riot and the murder of Officer Brian Sicknick, we got some quick hot takes here from Trump sympathizers that were basically in the form of, "Why didn't you care about those cops the rioters killed over the summer?!?!"

Of course, my initial reaction was I think it's horrible about those cops killed back in the summer. Any loss of innocent life is atrocious.

But the problem I had was I couldn't exactly remember which cops were killed back in the summer. Names eluded me. So, today, I decided to look up who in law enforcement died back then. Let's take a look at the names tossed out there during those protests and riots (credit to various fact-checking websites, links provided upon request).

David Dorn: This one is confirmed. He was a retired officer (77) shot and killed by a looter while trying to protect a pawn shop in St. Louis. Tragic and inexcusable, of course, but he wasn't an on-duty cop a the time.

David Patrick Underwood: A contracted security officer for DHS FPS shot and killed in a drive-by in Oakland during the unrest. Officers made the arrest--of a right-wing Boogaloo Boy He also wounded another officer. So, this homicide is credited to part of the extremist right.

Now, let's look at others who died during these times (or didn't) but were made into memes claiming they were victims of the looters/rioters.

George Baker: A trooper who died when struck by another patrol car while he removed stop sticks from the road. Unrelated to the riots.

Cody Holte: Shot and killed serving eviction papers. Not related to the riots.

Nate Lyday: Shot and killed responding to a domestic violence call.

Michael Mosher: Shot and killed while trying to arrest a hit and run suspect. Not related to the riots.

Debra Clayton: This meme of her death was falsely spread during the riots, claiming she was shot and killed by a black rioter. However, the Orlando officer actually died in 2017 while trying to apprehend a murder suspect.

Chris Beaty: His name was floated in a meme, but he wasn't an officer, and he died trying to stop a mugging in Indy. No suspect arrested and it's not confirmed if it was a rioter or not.

Max Brewer:An Atlanta cop who was helping with traffic during the protests. A drunk man on an ATV sped through the intersection and injured him. There was no indication the driver was part of the protests or that he hit Brewer on purpose.

Now, during the riots over the summer, police were attacked and shot, but not killed. This is still inexcusable.

So what's my point? A. Check your facts before believing memes. B. Extremists are bad and do bad things. Doesn't matter if they are leftist or right-wing. Thus far, this year, we have a confirmed cop body count score of neo-Nazi right-wing extremist 2, left-wing socialist antifa 0. And I acknowledge those numbers could have easily been flipped given the circumstances.

Over all, check your facts and denounce all forms of such violence. Don't scramble to defend either of these sides because they both suck.

Here. Read this last part of my post out loud, and then once again ask yourself if you still think I'm blaming one side over the other, or if I have blamed conservatives for anything (I didn't mention conservatives in my post).
