OK, I hate Thanksgiving and Christmas season. There, I said

Dec 17, 2020, 7:44 PM

it. Thanksgiving used to be my favorite holiday, because it was about food and not decorating or presents. But now it's been over-run by the ever-expanding commercialism of Christmas.

And Christmas brings on all the stress on Mrs No for shopping, including way too much thought/time for random co-worker/neighbor/etc presents. And the baking of way too much sweets that we'll never eat all of, plus the immediate fam she shops and buys too much for. Plus the coordinating amongst inlaws and outlaws of visits. Plus all the decorating. 90% of all of that is too much. All I do is shop for her, and run errands/execute her plans and tasks. Not to get all righteous, but way away from the point of Christmas. I'm walking on eggshells or we're having disputes over nothing but tension from over-doing.

I could go on, but let's just say I'd rather focus on Arbor Day.

May I suggest a shift in perspective?

Dec 17, 2020, 8:02 PM

Perhaps you two make a great team.
You’re there for her when she needs you, and she’s there for you when you need her.

Maybe you two would be better off without each other, but I doubt it. If you can, appreciate how you are there for each other.

oh, it's nothing drastic here, and you're right. Even in our moments of dispute (none at the moment), we end up getting together to accomplish our mutual goals. Sorry if it seemed more of a relationship issue than a gripe about the season creating unnecessary tension in our life, not our relationship.

John Lennon, "Happy Xmas"

I've never liked the "Xmas" word, just more moving it away from the reason for the holiday. But nice tune, even wit Yoko. Partly due to John's untimely death 12/08/80.

Don't let X-Mas mess up everything you know to be true about

Dec 17, 2020, 10:59 PM

Thanksgiving. So there's a Holiday beat and vibe around. Thanksgiving is still all that. This year has been whack on so much of that though. Don't let the bastages get you down.

Yay Arbor Day, though. Right on.

Thats why July 4 is great.

Dec 17, 2020, 11:17 PM

It's warm out, no presents to hassle with, all the food and drinking. Usually, you don't have to be around family you don't like, and instead, all the friends you DO like.

Thats the best thing about friends; you get to choose those. not so much with the fam.

I never budget enough for Christmas

Dec 18, 2020, 1:25 AM

I'm always a couple thousand short. I used to say, okay we are at our budget no more spending. Then I learned that the budget is whatever she wants to spend on Christmas.

truth.

Dec 18, 2020, 7:32 AM

and if I got her to write down a list of peeps she was going to buy a present for, when she started, by the time she was done it would be at least 10 more peeps that weren't on the list.

reckon APM is purdy lucky with the holidays

Dec 18, 2020, 7:56 AM

Mrs. PAW has never been an overboarder on any of it. Yes, she gets a little stressed about gifts and stuff at Christmas, but nothing drastic.

Sucks that our usual routine was/is busted this year.

Thanksgiving remains my favorite holiday and was even more so this year with lil'APM coming home from college. Did miss the chicken kickin' on Thanksgiving satdee of course. And missed the Drumstick Dash.

I'm not a huge fan of Christmas, but not a Scrooge either. APM's fave holidays ranked:

1) Thanksgiving
2) Easter
3) Memorial Day (all that racin')
4) New Year's Day (hoppin' john yo!)
5) Chrimmuss
6) Labor Day - end of summer, beginning of football
7) July 4th - too hot
8) Valentines - just not my thing

This year has actually been pretty good.

Dec 18, 2020, 11:09 AM

Had my shopping and wrapping done almost a month before the day, and since Mrs. and I decided to do some necessary fixes on the house instead of spending on presents, the house has been in too much disarray to bother decorating. She did hang a wreath on the door because she was making room in a closet to store stuff out of the way of the contactors. We usually go to my aunt's house in Hickory, NC for Christmas dinner, but now that's off the table so we'll do a small gathering and go to a restaurant to eat. No hassle Christmas. I think I could get used to that.

Christmas is great, it just shouldn't be 6 weeks long.***
