Homecoming was, of course, the biggest weekend of the year with the home game, Tigerama and CDA-sponsored dances. Most students remained on campus with dates pouring in for the activities. The professors and other Clemson area folks opened their homes for the ladies, so we either attended on-campus activities or were at the homes off campus with our dates. Mine usually stayed with Dr. and Mrs. J.B. Whitney, parents of two close Clemson friends, Chuck and Rob. (Dr. Whitney was a long-time professor of botany.) You younger folks would laugh at how we used to plan those activities...and especially how most "dressed up" in those days.

Also think we beat Duke that year in the Oyster Bowl (Norfolk, VA) by a score of 3-2. Didn't look it up, but I think that was right. CDA dances in Harcombe were the best! During those years....Otis, 4 Tops, Temps, Drifters, Platters....later Jerry Butler, The Tams(often), Arthur Conley, and Moses Dillard (G'ville). Great music and shows.

Yes they did. Purple & Orange "UCLA" sholder stripes, purple # and purple pants stripes. The white jerseys had same stripes and #s

Thanks for sharing.
I noticed that in 61-62, nobody really wore ORANGE to the games. But the Rat Hats were in there in 62-63. I was on the Student Loggia in 1968 - but not in that picture. Ahhh - those were the days. Great pictures. Thanks again.

I got to help erect and take down that one just down from Tillman at the Chemistry Bldg. When we cut the guy wires on Sunday Morning, she still stood and we had to pull it down with ropes.

arch has a comment referring to the display car being wrecked and killing the driver. My memory fails me, but there was a Clemson student from the Chapin area, who was killed in a single accident on 123 and who was a close friend. He was in a sports car, and I'm wondering if anyone remembers the car in the photo and to whom it belonged?
