Bikerider lungers

can you recommend a GOOD bike rack to carry 3 bikes (2 adult, one child) for back of an SUV?

I have this one

Great ease of use, easy install/takedown, stores flat. It says it's a 4 bike rack, and while you can squeeze 4 on there (and we do), it's more of a 3 bike system as far as fit, especially if your toting mountain bikes or other bikes with wider handlebars..

not yakima or thule or anything...but also not $400
mine's not powder-coated, and as such hasn't really held up 'great', but still works.

in fact, I don't use it anymore because no hitch.

want it?

We have the Transfer 2, and it is awesome.

as for the bike rack, if the child is a girl you may as well buy a trailer to haul all of the #### females travel with, just sayin!

If you have a hitch, this is the hands down best.

Do not fall into the Thule or Saris trap. Their componentry is crap. Yakima is far superior.

If you do not have a hitch, I can give you another option.

Yakima 5 bike rack, think it's an older version of this one:

https://smile.amazon.com/Yakima-RidgeBack-5-Bike-Hitch-Rack/dp/B00FUHDMLM/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1533137161&sr=8-3&keywords=yakima+5+bike+rack

I got it on sale on Woot some years ago for something around $200, maybe a little less. The top swivel to drop the bike holder rack is nice, but the bottom swivel at the hitch to "lean" the vertical bar out so you can open your SUV hatch makes it worth every penny. I imagine the Thules have the same feature.

I have that one as well... best craigslist find ever...

dentist in Charleston sold it to me for $25

I've hauled 4 bikes on it several times on multi state trips, no issues
