Doesn't mean he's better , just a four year head start to learn how to run the offense. Once DW passed him , he was the starter. Simple, I don't see how some can't see that.

Can't people just have different opinions? I think it's a fair question.
What I don't get is all the hostility for an honest question.
TI is just full of oversensitive posters who take things way too personal. Just a game with a ball at the end of the day.

In fact it wasn't even a question it was a statement and an accusation. The accusation is that Dabo is either incompetent or a liar. Yes, that offends me. All information and evidence shows Dabo to be a competent and honest coach.

penchant for being sentimental. That's his one weakness as a head coach. He has only made coaching changes when things go really terrible (2012 Orange Bowl blowout, 2010 offense). Didn't make a much need change with the oline coach, after an underperforming season from a very experienced oline. He kept Stoudt in against UGA, even though Watson came in and looked a 1000 times more talented than Stoudt. He continued to start Stoudt against FSU, even though we had to settle for FG's against SC State with Stoudt and scored a TD every single drive with Watson. He refuses to give Schuessler a try even though we go 3 and out on the regular with Stoudt.

Cole knows the system better. Lol he looked like a deer in headlights and should of had 4 ints. We would be in a much better situation with swag. But I don't blame Cole. He was recruited as a 2 star to run a pro set O.

You know that might be the reason Chad Kelly started acting out again. It would suck knowing you are the better player and the Coaches were kissing Coles butt?

DW cannot do much of anything just now, I hope he is back soon. Thank the Almighty that we have Gallman, Cole, Seckinger, and that awesome defense to get the job done while he is mending. Some folks have a difficult time facing reality

I question anyone's ability to be objective who honestly believes this is true.
I like Dabo, but it's clear that Cole was given the starting job just like DJ Howard was.

Dabo and Chad thought so. They are winners and so are the Tigers. I question anyone who professes to have more ability than those professionals. Do you honestly think that you are superior to them?

Looking silly on a message board where discsussions are
Oct 26, 2014, 4:59 PM

encouraged? Nah...I could care less what people think of me on here. This isn't a pageant and I'm not running for governor...yet. I'm a screen name to everyone on here and nothing more. I gain nothing but a little bit of knowledge by being here...worrying about looking silly is the least of my worries.
What is silly is trying to extinguish every little doubter on the internet with the idea that all coaches never make wrong decisions and fans will never be right about anything.
I don't blame Dabo for his choice...I think he corrected the error and Watson would still be starting obviously if he wasn't injured. I also don't hate on Stoudt...I commend him for even still wanting to be Tiger after so embarrassing fans let the boo birds fly last night. I think the future of Clemson football is SO bright that I'm not upset that we lost those two games...our time is coming, just not this year.

MRTTMT, you are spot on in your comment. All one has to do is talk to folks that know the facts, like players and coaches. At the beginning of the year Cole won the job because of his knowledge of the system and the checkoffs. Watson was not there yet!! There is no question, IMO, that Watson is a better athlete, has more talent, than Stoudt, but you play the person "that gives you the best chance to win" in that particular situation and time of the season, and that was Stoudt. Watson has learned a lot since the beginning of the season and as Dabo said, "he is the starting QB when he returns." Let's hope that Watson can play some in the G. Tech game and be back full time for the Ga. State and USC game.

Watson was an early enrollee and somehow he learned everything he needed to know in the course of 2-3 weeks? Even the coaches have said there is nothing he couldn't do so I'm not sure where all this 'Watson didn't know the system is coming from.'
He may have four years on Watson but that doesn't mean much when you're an elite talent. Does that mean Watson could not replace ANY four year starter in the country for any squad (regardless of division) in the country? There is something to be said for his talent. You can't run zone read with a QB that was groomed to be a pocket passer. Watson's legs alone bring an entirely different dynamic to the game.

Been my thought all along. There's practically no way in HAIL that he only demonstrated his ability to handle the game in that 3 week span.
If there's any doubt, remember when DJ Howard was our starting RB? Do you realize how thin we are at RB and how Howard still doesn't see the field much these days? Yeah, I guess DJ gave us the best chance to win.

Here's how it all went down guys, like it or not. Back in the spring, Watson was well on his way to winning the job outright. Unfortunately, he broke his collarbone. Stoudt and Kelly were basically even for 2nd string, but then Kelly did the unthinkable and got his butt kicked off the team. Dabo had no choice at that point but to name Stoudt the starter since Watson's recovery wasn't a sure thing for the first game of the season. Stoudt didn't really perform horribly against UGA (it was more a case of play calling), and then SC State was not even a contest. Then he came out against FSU and looked scared while Watson looked quiet and confident. Watson got the job. Without the collarbone injury in the spring, Watson is our starter against UGA, and we could very well be sitting in the top 10 (if not top 3) with wins over UGA and FSU.

You are partially correct. Did you talk to any of the coaches or players to come up with your final determination of how Stoudt got the job? If you did, and you still have the same opinion, then one of us had bad sources. All of this does not change the actual outcome of all of this and that is that Watson is now the starter and will be the starter when he returns, according to Dabo.

that has a good personality. We were lucky that BC and Louisville dropped some easy int's. Stoudt is a Division III QB at best.

I'm going to be real honest. Dabo is as loyal as they come. He picked seniority because that's how he is. Deshaun Watson should have been on the field. It is very apparent that Cole Stoudt does not know the offense better, nor does he have the talent or skill to play in such an offense. He is best suited for a power running attack where he has to make short throws every once and awhile.

practice. You don't throw a true freshman into a situation they were not sure he could handle. Watson is rare in that he could handle it, but most can't. They coaches were going with a 5 the year senior who they thought could play well enough to bring Watson along slowly and not damage his confidence against UGA and FSU on the road. Nobody could have predicted Watson's poise.

I will give you that and agree, throwing a young stud in the fire could cause damage if he's not ready. After that TD throw vs UGA I don't care how young DW is, he should have never came off the field.

Tall_Tiger_Too, badb, and Iberightgood, I am not asking you to "buy" anything that I posted, just simply ask the people that "know the facts" and, as I said, those are the players and coaches. Perhaps you need to re-read my post and after doing so, you still feel the same, then that is fine. I prefer to talk to folks that are actually experiencing what is happening at practice. No hard feelings!!!

Seems to me it is as simple as this. Cole was the starter, he lost the job to Watson, now Watson is hurt and Stoudt is now the starter. When Watson returns he will be the starter if he can outplay Stoudt. That is pretty elementary coaching.
