Buckeye fan observations

Hello Tiger fans! I am another Buckeye lurker this week. I've been browsing this week to get a perspective outside of my regular stomping grounds where, of course, everything is scarlet and grey. It's hard to look in the mirror and recognize our own flaws and sometimes its good to hear criticism from someone else. In sports that's usually easy to find in your opponents opinions. Not to mention that I haven't watched many Clemson games this year so I also wanted to learn a bit about you from elsewhere than the talking heads that just repeats what the last guy said.
Outside of a handful of posts/threads I've been more than a little surprised to see what I have found here. I do live in the south (yes I've seen no shortage shots about that) and know a number of Clemson fans whom I respect their opinions and who are very reasonable folks and not just blind fanboys who can't see past their team (I like to believe I'm one of these types).
Some things that have compelled me to create and account and post this
- By all accounts by all the talking heads, national college football sports talk hosts etc...this is one of the most evenly matched games on paper. If you believe what you read here, Ohio State should consider itself lucky to compete for 3rd place in the MAC
- The threads that I have seen that is actually trying to talk about the game keep referencing speed, or the lack there of, and pretty sure I something about the fat big ten. I don't expect for Clemson fans to play that close of attention to OSU games but this is utterly laughable.
- The non-stop attack of the state of Ohio, the people from Ohio and the "second rate school" that is Ohio State
- Forgetting about clashing fanbases, I have been really surprised at the absolute certainty that this Ohio State team is a farce and shouldn't even bother showing up on Saturday night. I'm not surprised to see this but the fact that this isn't just the opinion of a couple folks here but seemingly the vast majority. Perhaps this is true, I don't think so but I don't see how so many can be so adamant that this is fact.
I do realize where I am. This is your echo chamber to sound off to each other and pound your chest. Certainly nothing wrong with that and we absolutely have our own echo chambers to do the same. We certainly have no shortage of delusional and obnoxious fans. However, I have seen repeatedly how obnoxious the OSU fans are (some how our fans are more obnoxious than any others?) yet seemingly everyone here spells Ohio with a very arrogant 0H310 (or whatever that is). I guess a game that happened 3 years ago has some bearing on this Sat (yes getting blanked that game hurt)? You guys have been non stop talking about Woody Hayes for crying out loud! Discussing an incident that occurred with someone who would be over 100 years old today before, I'm guessing, most of you were alive. I guess that incident is somehow a reflection of who Ohio State fans are???
I know I'm on the internet and perhaps it is the fringe fans that have the loudest voices while whipping themselves into a frenzy on their keyboards.
Anyway, I just wanted to share my perspective. At the end of the day we are watching 18-24 year olds play a football game and are passionate for our teams. I personally find this matchup terribly compelling and really evenly matched. I would be surprised by anything other than a close game....but anything can happen!!

Don't believe everything you read on the internet. Just because it is there does not mean it is true!! Those 18-24 year olds on the field are also the same age as many of those posting on this site.
This game has the potential to be epic and one of the most exciting games either fan bases have experienced. For Clemson, we have had our share of tight games and nail biters but we don't play anybody so how could we possibly hang with the a juggernaut like Ohio State. We have won our fair share of blow outs too but all of that is out the window at 8:01 pm Saturday night. The Clemson people who have not posted far outweigh those who have on this site and we all know just how good this team is that we are facing. However, we are CLEMSON and we know that our team is special and will give the Buckeyes all they can handle. If you don't believe that just ask ND, Alabama, Oklahoma, Tx Am&M, SC, Auburn,etc...(remember we don't play anybody)
Enjoy the game, join in the banter, take a few shots across the bow because we will but at the end of the day when/if your team loses know that we will welcome you in Clemson anytime to learn why there is just something special in those hills. GO TIGERS!!!!!

have come to the conclusion that if other fans aren't kissing your bucknuts you tend to be offended and utterly appalled at their lack of respect for your traditions, history, coaches, players, state, etc.. etc.. etc....... So i find it comical how you can't control yourself to the point that you register an account and leave a 5 paragraph post on a Clemson fan website showing how sensitive you are. OSU is an elite team this year. They were an elite team every time we've played them. Cool. We love the challenge. But don't expect Clemson fans to bow down to anything Ohio State..why would we?

This has become a post-season rivalry--a bitter one for your team. OSU fans have been quite vocal as well. (Check out Twitter for the regular season and post-season entitlement issues and whining by your fans over the Tigers being ranked in the top 4.) Both teams have had good seasons and luckily the outcome will be decided on the field. So...what does admonishing Clemson fans posting on a Clemson message board accomplish?

What’s LAUGHABLE is we are the Defending National Champions, undefeated, and you are ranked higher than Us.
The same team that ran the ‘Best Team Ever (2018 Tua/Bama) completely out of the stadium 44-16.
You were more talented ( supposedly) in 2013 Orange Bowl & 2016 Fiesta Bowl and supposed to destroy us then as well.
We have heard it every year from every team OU(2) LSU, OSU(2), Bama(2/4), ND. We hear the same thing every time... Clemson can’t hang with xyz...they haven’t played any Juan... they’re playing the best team ever...

Ohio State is one of the bluebloods of college football; one with a storied and rich tradition of success. Clemson is working to build continual success, and we believe we are headed in the right direction. Thus, the opportunity to play programs like Ohio State is critical to our efforts, an opportunity of which I am proud for my Alma Mater.
I might add, there is one certainty: no one, not even the most mighty prognosticators, knows the game's outcome. And that's why we'll play it.

The Buckeyes want to win; so do we. They are one of the four elite this year; so are we. I expect one heck of a game, perhaps, rivaling our title game against Bama last January. The fact is that I have the same cautious anxiety as I've had in our previous CFP matchups, and in four years we have two national titles.
Bring on the Buckeyes!

Pretty accurate. Clemson fans are actually pretty level headed. Tnet is it's on thing. I give the people on 11 warriors the benefit of the doubt because I hope people will do the same thing for us.

so don’t accuse us of being the only ones keeping it alive. It’s part of our history, which as of Saturday is only 4 games old...so of course it’s still referenced. Also, it occurred in the modern era of football, regardless of Woody’s advanced age.
B.) The 31-0 game was 3 years ago. There are still players on both teams that played in that game. So it’s still relevant. Those players haven’t forgotten, so why should we.
C.) When we show our arrogance, maybe it’s driven by the 90% of those transplants that move down here and act like they know everything. That may not be you, but then again, some of the posters on this site may not be me. But I do understand their angst at dealing with the vast majority that can’t wait to get to SC to proclaim their way of life was better. We typically don’t hurt your feelings to your face (southern hospitality and all that), so we do it here by talking about your lousy team (which was pretty lousy the last few times we’ve met).

Yes the Woody incident is relevant in the history of college football. It was a regrettable event but not one that should reflect on a team or its fan base 40 some years later. That said, I get the ribbing was just surprised at how much that has been referenced here.
2016 hurt. Not sure who was favored in that game I think it was you guys. If you asked an honest Buckeye fan going into that game you wouldn't have gotten much in terms of confidence. Our offense was so stale and predictable then when you knocked out our best interior lineman early it was curtains. Perhaps we should be thankful though, at least after that we hired Ryan Day and began moderizing!
The go back home thing is funny to me. I've been in Atlanta most of my live after my father retired from the military. I used to hear a lot of that here (not to me specifically but in general). Perhaps it is because you can't really find anyone who is originally from Atlanta here anymore. Perhaps folks moving from the north to SC is a newer scenario. So, I don't have the "well back in Ohio..." thing. I feel like that is more of a New York or Boston thing anyway.

I was at the 2016 game and tailgated with some tosu fans that my wife knows through a professional association. These weren’t any WalMart fans...longtime boosters. Both Doctors and their families.
They talked more trash than a drunk #### fan. They were sure that Clemson had no chance. They had all the jokes too: inbred Uneducated Southerners, etc. Ii didn’t talk any trash back at them for my wife’s sake. Just smiled and laughed everting off. They dared us to come back to the tailgate after the game and take our medicine. Strangely, they weren’t there afterwards.
They were rude, disrespectful, know it all ########. Every single tosu fan I have met (in real life, not on a forum) has been exactly the same.
Maybe others have had a different experience?

Nope, Arrogant, stuck up a-holes everyone of them. I had a neighbor across the street when we played them in 2013,he’s a pretty professional guy, but he talked so much uppity smack for that game I wanted to choke him. and then he avoided me months after the game, wouldn’t even go get the mail if I was in the yard.. I know others who are exactly the same

That’s true for Clemson, Ohio State, and all others.
Most Clemson fans respect Ohio State as a school and football program, don’t view people from Ohio as “Yankees,” and don’t think Clemson is going to win tomorrow by 10 touchdowns.
TigerNet of all places is the least representative of Clemson fans. Take everything you read here with a “grade of slaw” (grain of salt).

I think the two groups: a team's fan base and a team's online posters probably have a relatively small intersection. IOW I would never judge a team's entire fan base buy what their most rabid fans say online. Since you live down here, you should try to come to a game in person. I think you will find our fan base friendly, open, and knowledgeable.

I think you are spot on! This holds true far beyond sports banter online unfortunately. Then the world reads what is online by these rabid posters and believe it to be true. Slow work week and enormous game Saturday.....so I got sucked in!!
I do know several Clemson fans and have generally had a very good opinion of them. I've typically had a harder time with the SEC fans and UGA fans specifically.

There's a lot of trolls on here that saw your message board linking to posts on here and everyone started to go with it. Its basically a running joke now. This will be a good game. We are pretty confident but its a 2 point line for a reason. I'd put Brent Venerables against any coach in the country with 3-4 weeks to prepare. Clemson will get our points....I think the big matchup here is our defense vs your offense.
