Best places to visit in Montana?

Jan 24, 2021, 3:36 PM

Thinking of flying into Whitefish & checking out glacier for a few days, then driving south, hitting Missoula then on to Bozeman and Yellowstone.

Will be there in August. Any other must-sees? Best place to get a guided flyfishing trip?

We flew into Spokane

Jan 24, 2021, 3:44 PM

Did the trail of the Hiawatha (bike down an old train track)

Spent a day in Coeur d’Alene awesome lake

Then drove to Whitefish

We stayed at Bar W guest ranch and I only have nice things to say about it

Skeet shooting, fly fishing, horse rides along Canadian border, etc. it was awesome

We did Glacier and it was also awesome

We were there in September and parts of the park were already closed

Drove into Canada to say we did

Beautiful place and I highly recommend

If you drive into Canada

Jan 24, 2021, 3:48 PM

Stay longer than 30 minutes

We got hassled a bit on our way back

I just wanted to hit a gas station and buy something and drive back to say I had driven to Canada

Bar W ranch looks awesome, exactly what we’re looking for there. We’ll do some more bougie place in Bozeman. The tents and horseback riding there looks awesome.

We had the whole bottom floor of the ranch house

Jan 24, 2021, 4:23 PM

To ourselves

It was B and B style when we went there

There’s a sweet little dive bar in town and some kinda cowboy whiskey that was good

Just live there.***

Most of my family is gone now but hers are too mean to die so we stay here.

They always are, especially when they invade our house and

eat all our food and leave.

This year was better though, they weren't allowed inside. COVID is good for some things.

Don’t miss Harlowton.

Jan 24, 2021, 4:20 PM

Little place there called “Applebee’s”. Tell them you don’t need a menu, and that Obed told you to order the bourbon street steak. You can thank me later.

Nice dude! I’m always on the lookout for those locals-only spots, the unknown authentic places where you really get a feel for people and culture. I’ll bookmark this.

They have a place there that locals won't let the cat out of

the bag on called Red Lobster. They fly the freshest seafood in directly from Louisville and it's a sheer delight.

and you should see their DMV. It's a tourist attraction on par with a Walmart Super Center!!!

I can tell you where not to go.

Havre. What a ######## of a town. Gaston, but with some picturesque beauty because Montana. But a ########, nonetheless.

If you are going to Yellowstone don’t skip Grand Tetons.

Jan 24, 2021, 8:11 PM

Buffalo Bill Museum in Cody is neat but probably not worth going out of your way.

I'm going there in Sept

first trip, never made it with the kids for some reason so just me and the wifey. We are staying a couple days in the Grand Tetons and 5 days in Yellowstone

For fly fishing, look into Ennis, MT.

Jan 25, 2021, 8:26 AM

This is a no stoplight town with a fly fishing problem. Neat little town with a couple of good restaurants, plenty of lodging (mostly cabins, we stayed here: www.elwestern.com, dew wreck or mend) and a few good bars, including Willie's Distillery. It's about an hour NW of West Yellowstone.

Prolly more fly fishing stores than gas pumps.

If you're in Billings and want a good steak, hit Jake's

Jan 25, 2021, 8:44 AM

All local beef. One of the best steaks I've had.

lesson about driving to see nature. It was awesome for about 30 minutes, and then, it just looked the same all the time.

And then, that squirrel came flying up the ledge while I was looking over, and nearly made me soil ye olde underwear. The sucker almost flew right through us, talk about an adrenaline rush, yeesh!
