Protesters being outed on twitter

Aug 14, 2017, 7:19 PM

This is awesome.....

Re: Protesters being outed on twitter

Aug 15, 2017, 9:04 AM

Isn't it illegal to fire someone for something like that? Should he be protected under law? I don't agree with their actions/protest but that is no reason to fire someone from a job.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Thats the modern day answer for everything

Aug 15, 2017, 9:10 AM

If you don't like someone, get him fired

badge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

No, not in the least bit illegal.***

Aug 15, 2017, 9:16 AM [ in reply to Re: Protesters being outed on twitter ]

And it's also a perfect reason to fire someone from a job.

But if their association with your business causes your

business to take a dive in performance, should you tie the hands of the employer?

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Do you think he should never be allowed to work again?

Aug 15, 2017, 9:27 AM

What opinion might he have that warrants that? And who gets to judge that?

Should Prodigal be fired and shamed from his job because him being a Christian might be unpopular? What if he was, I dunno, Muslim? Or Wiccan?

badge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

He's allowed to work. He just has to find a job.***

badge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

And they didn't want him representing their company.

Aug 15, 2017, 9:33 AM

So he needs to find a new one now.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

At some point, I'm sure you have said something on here

Aug 15, 2017, 9:37 AM

or probably Facebook (if you're into that), that your employer would consider something that he wouldn't agree with "representing his company". Should you have been fired for it?

This guy means nothing to me, but the popularity of firing people for basically nothing performance related has gone over the top, IMO. I'm not sure of the point. Is it for punishment? And when does that punishment end?

badge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

If continued employment of an employee causes your

Aug 15, 2017, 9:40 AM

business to suffer, that seems performance related.

And keep in mind this is all for private sector jobs. Government workers wouldn't be fired and union shops would have to show just cause.

But if my hotdog stand is about to become ground zero for protests because of a neonazi a-hole I've got on payroll, he gone.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Why wouldn't a government worker be fired?

Aug 15, 2017, 9:44 AM

And I'm not sure those whop have been fired due to twitter their, say outbursts that someone disagreed with would have caused their "business to suffer".

Most people aren't that important.

How about this: What was your opinion of our med student getting kicked out of school for talking about doing drugs in college? Deserved? Cool thing to do for the person who turned him in?

badge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Of course it wasn't a cool thing to do. But again,

Aug 15, 2017, 9:59 AM

admitting to past drug use is not the same as being a torch-wielding white supremacist whose association with your business could lead to economic ruin.

I understand the slippery-slope concerns. But employees do not have freedom of speech.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

"employees do not have freedom of speech"

Aug 15, 2017, 10:05 AM

That's an interesting thought.

badge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Well they still have protections from the government,

Aug 15, 2017, 10:16 AM

but not from an employer. This is just the free market at work.

Aug 15, 2017, 2:33 PM

I would've been at least reprimanded, perhaps discharged, for engaging in such hoonanery while in the military, in uniform or not, is what I was told. And rightly so.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

But you knew that already.

Re: I've never been big for firing someone for non joperformance

Aug 15, 2017, 9:24 AM [ in reply to I've never been big for firing someone for non joperformance ]

Yes. How is this any different that firing someone for being gay, or muslim, or anything else for that matter. Just because you don't agree with someones beliefs is not good enough reason to fire someone.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Being gay or Muslim isn't the same as being a neonazi.

Aug 15, 2017, 9:28 AM

That's how it's different.

Actually, thats due to being in an "at will" state.

Fuggin' up my business isn't a "belief".

I'm aghast that some would take umbrage at the firing of a Nazi. Do you think the taco stand needs to let the kiddie #### collector keep his job?

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

with the new face recognition software, gonna be common

Aug 15, 2017, 9:10 AM

to see this.

Wouldn't bother me if every one of those creeps got exposed and arrested, fired, fined for littering, whatever. ALL of them.

Maybe this is the future key to ending these waste-of-resource protests and destructive "peace" marches.

badge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Thats an interesting thought.

Aug 15, 2017, 9:11 AM

Who else might should be arrested for protesting?

badge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I don't make that call, but I said it wouldn't bother me

Aug 15, 2017, 9:31 AM

if they identified and nailed a bunch of them for fighting, setting fires in the street, blocking traffic, and being public nuisances to businesses and the community.

But I say it as someone who has never "marched" in protest over anything. I have better things to do in life than hanging out with bitter, angry folks. Life's too short to spend it pissedoff at things that don't affect me whatsoever (like statues of dead people). If there was a giant statue of Satan himself next door to my house, I wouldn't care enough to spent the $3 to buy a can of spray paint to paint a moustache on him. Why does this crap bother people so much?

Take down all the statues, I don't care. And don't make any more of anybody, ever. Or leave them up. But while you're taking them down, make sure you get the gay tiger by Gate 1. That one is stupid looking.

badge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up
