Has anyone used any flooring other than tile or linoleum in the bathroom ? OUr house in Simpsonville had a bathroom with the pergo-style flooring, but it was just a half-bath and we only lived there a year.

We had carpet in a bathroom in Philly 30 years ago. Would not

wreck or mend. If you do put in carpet, be sure to "not miss".

Best use I've seen for carpet

Dec 22, 2020, 10:28 AM

putting it on the bunk boards of a boat trailer.

badge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Thats a good place for the wood looking tile planks

Dec 22, 2020, 10:27 AM

I've even seen in it a shower, and now high end boats are doing that.

I wouldn't put plastic (LUXURY-lulz vinyl tile) floors in a doghouse, but that's just me.

Hey explain this

Dec 22, 2020, 10:29 AM

are you referring to LVP as UDP?

####. That was the plan

Go to lumber liquidators.

Dec 22, 2020, 10:43 AM

I'm sure they have some that doesn't smell like Chinese embalming fluid.

But srsly, go to lumber liquidators and get some wide planking engineered hardwood. If its a $1 more psf, how much have you really spent?

badge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

That's where we bought the hardwood at the last house

Dec 22, 2020, 10:48 AM

good deals.

Got something on sale. With two kids It had a few dents and knicks in the 2 years we lived there.

The right hardwood will look better as it ages

Dec 22, 2020, 10:56 AM

The shiny, thin plank engineered stuff will not.

Don't take house advice from this guy. LL sells cheap chinese floors full of chemicals. Any wood floor $5/sf or less is junk and that is exactly what LL sells. Look for $8/sf+ range for the quality stuff.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

lol...I think LL went through all that a few years ago

Dec 22, 2020, 12:01 PM

and got stung pretty bad for it. LL doesn't sell anything made in China now:

https://www.washingtonpost.com/local/legal-issues/lumber-liquidators-to-pay-33-million-for-misleading-investors-about-formaldehyde-in-laminate-flooring/2019/03/12/d45258be-44c9-11e9-8aab-95b8d80a1e4f_story.html

And I wouldn't buy anything from there; I've got flooring contacts in SC covered that if I build or remodeled here, I'd be buying from them and having them install it; I've gone through this enough to know what I want.

badge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

This—-just put in our master and half bath.

It’s so choice, if you have the means, I highly recommend picking some up.

I like the look.

Dec 22, 2020, 10:55 AM

I'm not sure how trendy it will be, and in 15 years everyone will be making fun of it like carpet, but its looks fresh now. Anything that won't look trendy in 15 years will be so bland that it will look cheap now.

badge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Shag carpet***

Not gonna lie, if I was designing a bathroom specifically

Dec 22, 2020, 10:41 AM

for comfortable dumps, it would look like that.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

If I were you...

Dec 22, 2020, 10:44 AM

I'd look really hard at wood planks from pallets. That's all the rage now as far as home improvement goes.

ringofhonor-rhtig.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Fun to watch the kids quickly learn the hard way that

Dec 22, 2020, 10:54 AM

Sliding around the house in socks is now verboten.

2024 orange level memberbadge-donor-20yr.jpgringofhonor-obed.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

one of the rooms downstairs

Dec 22, 2020, 11:04 AM
