Anybody know what number he wore in the pros?

I think 66 is retired for him.***

I know that in this day and time, things are different.

Banks played basketball with my uncle at Clemson and he was an All American in both football and basketball. Fast forward another generation and I was a student when Banks was on Frank Howard's coaching staff.

How great an athlete would he have been in this day and time? Who knows. But he was a great athlete.

There is no way to compare his generation to the present. Think about this. When Georgia Tech won the national football championship under Bobby Dodd in 1957, their offensive line averaged 170 pounds. 6' 0" was considered tall. And, the south was segregated.

Black athletes basically dominate nowadays, offensive lines average 300 pounds plus, and ideal QB's are 6' 5" and weigh 230 pounds.

Just saying

he was a big fast guy, so he is an old school player that...

He was tall and gangly not thick. Check pics.

gangly by today's standard, go back and take a look at the pics...

again for game photos. He was noticeably bigger than a good number of players. Put him in a modern S&C program and he likely would have the ability to have the build to be a good player.
