Look for Auburn to come after Tony Elliot

Dec 13, 2020, 3:22 PM

Would make sense for them to talk w him. I would hate to see him go but that wouldn’t be a bad gig. Auburn can win. I see some people comparing them to USuc, but Auburn is a much better job. They have some tradition.

Auburn is a trillion times better job than USuCk.

I figure they already have a guy lined up, and I'd be shocked if it's TE. I figure they go after a sleazer that will do what it takes to bring the Jimmys and Joes back to Auburn in a hurry.

to South Carolina. They've won two national championships in football so yes they DO have some tradition! Not sure if TE will go straight to a bigtime HC coach job or not - will be interesting to see what Auburn does.

Auburn is all in on Hugh Freeze, they probably will not even interview anyone unless he has a change of heart and backs out on them.

Auburn will go for someone with head coaching experience

Freeze sounds realistic for them.

Seems a little bit above what Tony should realistically get.

Dec 13, 2020, 3:53 PM

I would expect his first HC gig to be an upper tier G5 or lower tier P5 job. Auburn, despite the Alabama complex and the issues that brings, is a top 15ish job in the country.

I think to a degree it’s got to do with the success of prior coordinators under the HC who have gotten HC gigs. Look at Kirby and GA. He had no HC experience and got the UGA job (and has already proven to do less with more).

If TE worked for Lord Saban he’s be #1 on everyone’s list. Dabo has had next to zero guys leave and the two who have haven’t had any success yet.

Had an Auburn Alumn tell me Auburn had their man before

they fired Gus.TE is not it. Take it for what it's worth and a grain of salt.

the Auburn web site had both Coach Elliott and Coach Venebles as potential candidates.

There were several others listed, including High Freeze.***

Venables and Elliot will always be on a vacant list but
neither of them will be the coach at Auburn. I don't believe
Venables wants to be a head coach.

They may, but their fans are not thinking that. They are thinking current head coaches. Or at least former head coaches.

I'll try and find a reasonable list of names, but Hugh Freeze will definitely be on it.

I would think that Mario Cristobal would be on their short list.

The SEC West is not where you want your first head coaching job. Just sayin'.

I hope he doesn’t go, but it apparently is a nice place to get fired from.
