Do you think the CFP committee wants to avoid another CU-

Dec 7, 2020, 10:36 AM

ND matchup?

If we beat ND in the ACCCG -- and we both make the playoffs as anticipated under that scenario -- do you think the CFP committee will rank us 2nd or 3rd, and intentionally rank ND 4th to avoid a third edition of Clemson-ND (at least in the first round)?

I could see that happening.

to set-up preferred match-ups.

One example would be the year Clemson faced OU in Miami while Bama played Michigan State in Dallas.

An OU match-up with Bama in Dallas would have effectively been a home game for OU.

There are two options -

We will get either Texas A&M, Florida (if they win the SEC, expect them to be #3), or Ohio State. As either the #1 or #2 seed.

Bama will get someone from the midwest. Either ND or Ohio State as the #1 or #3/4 seed.

The only oddball I can think of would be if Bama gets absolutely blown out by Florida and ND loses a 2OT game. Then you would have us as #1, 310 as #2/3, Florida as #2/3, and maybe ND/A&M as #4

If Bama gets blown out, they would likely still slide in at

I can assure you, Notre Dame will NOT be in the Playoff. Nobody wants to watch that boring team get manhandled a second time by Clemson.

Pretty sure that would be the only scenario should Ohio Stat

Dec 7, 2020, 11:04 AM

get the other spot. The only way it may work differently is if a Cincinati got in instead of OSU. But i'm sure the idea is for ND to be 4 and play Bama first and Clemson play OSU first. Just win though. None of it matters if we lose on the 19th. ND is really good and even with Trevor if our line gets manhandled again we could lose. Because ETN has to factor in on this game. If he's held to nothing again then its a crap shoot.

Take it from an old lady, we will NOT beat ND in Charlotte. Their offensive line will whip us. Sorry to say and we have NO running game. Just the facts, mam. Bud disagrees but he is wrong this time.

a third prime time matchup would defy common sense and decency.

So, I would be both surprised and appalled should the Committee commit an act of inanity and pair us up with ND again...which, of course, may depend upon the outcome of the ACCCG.

I expect Clemson to win the conference title, and I expect we'll see a Bama/ND semi and a Clemson/Ohio State or Texas A&M semi.

Personally, I'd rather see Coastal make the playoff than any of our usual CFP victims.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

They do that and have before but it won’t be necessary

Dec 7, 2020, 6:01 PM

1. Bama
2. Clemson
3. OSU
4. ND

CU & OSU will both be considered better than ND so the seeding really won’t matter, but I suspect a 9-1 Clemson will be #2 ahead of a 6-0 OSU because we will have a better resume.

I honestly believe a strong argument could be made that Clemson has a better resume than Alabama and Clemson should be the #1 seed with Bama #2 followed by Notre Dame #3 and OSU #4.
