Would like to see it return - one year at Clemson, one year at the fair grounds in Columbia.

Germains but this was posted Tues & yes I attended last game in 1959..

as a Clemson Fresh with rat cap on..and b/4 game I stupidly jumped from my front row seat, over the hedge so to get the Tiger Mascot's tail back which had been torn off by Coot male cheerleaders..

but when at mid-field and seeing those boys being about 50-75 lbs heavier, I ran back to my seat and as I got to hedge one of the male cheerleaders caught up to me and grabbed my kaki rear pants pocket..causing a rip about 6" long & exposing my underwear.

Out of breath & relieved of being safe, I immediately realized this game & rivalry wasn't for 125 lb Sissies!

I was at the last Big Thursday in 1959. My Dad got me out of my 7th grade class to attend. He was class of '39 and I later graduated from Clemson in '69. Also attended the first game in Death Valley the next year. And many more after that.. 63-17 was my favorite. My wife still talks about that game being better than Disney World. Don't go back to cootlumbia for a game any longer. Too many crazies! ????

Yes, I was young, but I remember it.

I went to it and still have the program. Was 6 I think. Clemson won 27-0.

Too young to remember, but my uncle, Harvey White, was in his first year at QB in '57.

My school class took a field trip to Clemson when Harvey
was the QB and we got to go to the field house and meet
some players and I remember putting Harvey Whites helmet
on and it came down almost to my shoulders.

Your Uncle Harvey could fall forward and gain three yards. If it was third and three or less, I always thought Coach Howard should let Harvey run.

My family lived in Cootlumbia

Nov 27, 2019, 6:23 PM

and my oldest sister(now passed) was a student at USuC for the last 3 Big Thursday's. I sold cokes at every home game but Big Thursday was special because the State Fair was in town. I would watch/sell for 3 quarters and then ditch my apron and crate tray and pocket my ill gotten gains. Only did it during that madhouse Thursday and never heard a word. I hope the statue of limitations has run out.

Remember it well. The grammar school principal came and got me out of class so I could listen to the game and keep him posted since he had to fill in for a teacher that was absent that day. Didn't get to listen to the complete game since school ended before the game did. Also didn't hurt since he was also my cousin.

Don't tell bad things on yourself, instead just let
everyone think that you are an honest person.

I never went to a game there, but I recall reading a story in the old Charleston paper, The News and Courier, about how Big Thursday was known everywhere. I recall they quoted a foreign visitor who asked to their surprise, “What is Big Thursday?” World famous I guess.
