Anyone noticed that 9mm ammo is hard to find again?

Nov 25, 2020, 1:23 AM

A friend of mine was looking this weekend. I had bought some on sale a month back but now you cannot find any. I guess people are stocking up again.

Well, as of now there’s no registration, but how do you obtain a lower receiver? That is the serialized part and must go through a FFL dealer. I guess you could 3D print one or machine your own.

Nov 25, 2020, 3:57 AM

you can learn how to build an AR-15 lower that is completely unregistered without going through an FFL. Plenty of sites that walk you through how to do it. You just need to be aware of your particular State and local jurisdiction laws before going through with it.

You can expect "80% guns" to be one of the first things the Biden/Democrats go after as soon as they are in power so don't expect this option to be around this time next year.

I thinking about going back to reloading. I have a new turret press still in the box. I would have to buy the 9mm die. I only have 7mm and 357 dies.

It won’t matter

Nov 25, 2020, 1:44 AM

If you don’t already have them you will not find primers. Especially small pistol. Only 4 US primer manufacturers and they can’t keep up with the government or civilian ammunition production let alone reloaders. Been this way for over a year. New brass getting very scarce and powder is starting to slow to a trickle (pun intended).

I have a case of primers but will start looking for more.

Consumer demand on one end and component supply (primers) on the other.

Been buying max amount (3 boxes 60 rounds) 5.56 at Academy ($8.99)and different stores for the last 2 or 3 months. Academy stocks on Monday, Wendsday, Friday and is usually gone by 10-11 a.m. So get there early.

Sportsmen's Warehouse also stocks 2 or 3 times a week however have has a 2 box limit. I've heard Palmetto State Armory usually keeps 9, 5.56, and 45 in stock if you can stand driving Woodruff Rd.

PSA prices are #### though. If you are willing to get to academy at their opening time, sometimes they have a much better deal. I’ve seen 150 rd boxes for $49 of 223 and 150 boxes of 9mm for $29. You just have to be willing to wait with the other vultures at the store opening.

Nov 25, 2020, 9:31 AM [ in reply to Re: Anyone noticed that 9mm ammo is hard to find again? ]

I live in GA. The Academy by my house has been out of stock with everything but shotgun shells for the past 9 months. I spoke to one of the guys working there and he explained that they get new stock every 3 days. However, he said people are lined up at 4:30 a.m. waiting for the store to open on stock days. I joked that "maybe I should show up those days and sell ammo out of my trunk." He replied "People do that actually."

I have around 100 shotgun shells, 100 pistol rounds and about 40 30-06 rounds. That's about all I'll ever need for any reasonable purpose. But, I've got buddies with 10,000+ rounds. I tell them that they're part of the problem and why there is a shortage. And, I mean it. I don't understand people that buy that much ammo. If those guys ever got in a real fire fight, they'd be lucky to squeeze off 5 shots. But, it's America and however you wanna spend your money ain't none of my business.

Some places still got 9mm but higher prices. Went to auction over weekend and they were selling them but only allowed 2 boxes to each buyer

Try using this search engine for ammo

Nov 25, 2020, 4:08 AM

https://ammoseek.com/

I've been using this site to find ammo for a couple of years and even in this ammo drought environment have found everything I need. Just got a case of 9mm yesterday - pricey but lower than what I would have paid at a local store. In this environment most listings only last a couple of hours before they sell out - that was the case in the 9mm I just bought.

Apparently hoarding and high demand has produced a worldwide shortage of primers that is jacking ammo prices through roof. Kind of shows you where peoples mentality is based on COVID and the political environment. Anyway, I don't think reloading is going to save you much right now because you are competing for the same resources that the ammo manufacturers are having a hard time getting - mainly primers.

Yes check www.ammoseek. com first but be carefull to check www.bbb.org because their are some scam companies out there Check to make sure they have telephone # and address not just e-mail for contact.www.Ammoshoponline.com has norma 9mm FMJ for 29.97 for 50 but shipping takes 20 plus days. These are nice clean FMJ. Wife and I go through 250+ rounds per practice session on shoot dates.Shes the bomb with metal targets head shots from 40 ft. But for self defense you need hollow pt. They are up to $1.00 + per bullet.Just got a batch from alchemist ammunition in Florida ,they are out of boxes of 50 now but still have boxes of 20 and they don't charge tax.You should have loaded up before now but you can,t go back in time.
I hope you have some ARs too , you might need them for the socialists.

Also wanted to add that at ammoseek a lot of the companies are only selling min. 500 or 1000 rounds at the lower prices. PSA is expensive but fast but are out of all 9mm.Igot their last normas at .60cent per round. Good luck!

Technology taketh away...and technology giveth. I wish the government regulators luck.

Nitrocellulose is the big thing since it's the key ingredient in smokeless powder. I have a couple of friends who make it; they say it's a finicky process and exacting but not that hard once you know how.

Ironically they also say the advent of 3D printers will allow even ordinary people to create spec-made processes that are exacting, so even if the gub'mint tries to regulate the supply of ammunition the means to readily create more are rapidly becoming widely available.

Gun owners may have to adapt some, but the good news about the gub'mint always has been, it's slow and just way behind the technological curve...and by the time it gets around to regulating something the game has already changed.

You can have your snazzy 3D printers. Or you can have government control over guns and ammo. Kind of hard to have both, you know? And even if the government somehow gets rid of smokeless powder there's always old-fashioned black powder...which we've known how to make since the Chinese first launched fireworks, like, centuries back.

own powder as well. At the moment, powder availability doesn't seem to be the problem - it's all about the primers and I've yet to see anyone that can reliably produce homemade primers - at least a primer that I would trust.

He liked guns of all sorts...and has all sorts. He also would reload his 'brass', so all manner of tools and supplies are on hand...powder, brass, primers, etc., etc. The reload equipment/dies sit on a workbench...not sure when he last reloaded, but it's all there. For the time being, nothing is going anywhere. When the time to disperse comes, I am adamant it goes to good people and if that effort takes years...so be it. Heck, I may uncover another gun...I've discovered at least three that weren't in safes...simply strategically...or forgottenly placed around the house!

So...I trudge on...should be quite the learning experience! :)

They allow you to buy up to 3 boxes of each caliber. I’m not sure if every academy sports gets their shipments on the same day, but that’s what my local store does.

Find a Good Price and Buy 5.56, 7.62 and 9mm

Nov 25, 2020, 8:54 AM

Ammo I bought under $0.50/round 9 months ago is worth almost 3x that now. Selling is illegal of course but you get the point. Prices are not going to get any better. Kommie Kamala and Sleepy Joe may not take your guns, but they will make the whole experience and process harder and more costly somehow thinking in their moronminds that their regulations will impede criminals.

Long wait right now though . Ammoshoponline 20 days to ship . Hope this helps.

Nov 25, 2020, 11:09 AM

I stocked up on 9mm, 5.56, 7.62x39, 7.62x51, and 12 gauge. Just a modest stock up, nothing like the hoarders.

Wish I had more 300 Blackout, can't find it anywhere.

I don't understand hoarding 10,000+ rounds, especially of anything steel case.

Do these people not understand that steel case doesn't have the shelf life of brass?
