Keith Jackson here.

He'd definitely be at or past the end of his career if he was still with us, but I sure wish JP could have lived to see what's been going on at Clemson for the last six years.

Re: Definitely miss Jim

I agree Jim Philips was Clemson for so many years that it would have been great if Jim could have enjoyed today’s success. He did get to enjoy Clemson’s first run under DF. I remember listening to JP calling the 81’ game while I was sitting in the Orange Bowl stadium. JP was able to call Clemson’s first national Championship.

I remember Keith Jackson announcing on ABC’s Wide World of Sports. Excellent Choice. Sadly there are no Keith Jackson’s , Jim Philips, Bob Fulton, several Atlanta Braves announcers like Skip Carey and Don Sutton. The Cubbies Harry Carey and the Dodgers announcer Vin Scully.

All of these announcers could hold an audience the entire game plus they were great entertainers. Will we ever see and hear such a talented group of announcers again??

Re: Which college football commentor do you miss?

Clearly it’s Keith Jackson.

Being from my generation, I think you have to give a nod to the “Wide World of Sports” style of announcers. As a kid I was a sports nut and was addicted to anything on ABC Wide World of Sports. Jim Phillips was of this vein of announcer imo, as was Keith Jackson. They had a very proper businesslike, almost monotone approach to enunciating the action, but quickly elevated their tenor with excited, dramatic and showy descriptions of big plays, “Whoa Nellie,” etc. Chris Schenkel (sp?) and Bill Fleming were prime examples of this Wide World of Sports dramatic style, along with many others, which excited me so much watching college football as a kid. It’s too bad this style has faded. I will say, and may get called out for, I thought Verne Lundquist was iconic and a great announcer before he lost it in his later years. Too bad we had to see him decline like that.
