A nole perspective on Ellis and the Walk of Champions.

When I read this thread I thought, "This sounds familiar." I did a little research. (orry, I don't know how to copy and paste quotes on this board, but here is what I found.)
********* Former Clemson coach Tommy Bowden started the tradition when he became head coach in 1999, an idea he actually got from his father, Hall of Fame coach Bobby Bowden, when he was the head coach at Florida State.
*********
Yep, we do it every game. We walk toward our end zone which has our student section in it.
Here are my comments:
Coaches want their teams fired up. Coaches also want their fans fired up. Fans of opposing teams, especially student sections, are expected to be loud, harassing and even rude and crude to your team. Taunting, yelling, screaming, and even cussing and pointing the middle finger do not cross the line of allowable fan behavior. Whatever goes on IN THE STANDS is allowable.
Players cannot go into the stands or throw things into the stands. But, while on the field, especially during pregame warm ups, players reacting to fans, and vice versa, is allowable.
But throwing things from the stands onto the field is not. It is subject to either removal from the stands, or even arrest (depending on the severity).
If the Gamecock administration thinks that due to their stadium configuration the logical place for the student section is in the end zone where the opposing team warms up, then it is the responsibility of the Gamecock administration to take reasonable action to prevent anything their students might do.
Seems simple enough. During the pre-game warm up have a ton of security posted by the student section. Have plenty of LEO's there. Remove and arrest any person who throws anything onto the field. I'm betting it is probably in the 20-30 range. I watched a video of he 2017 walk. I didn't see hundreds, much less thousands, of water bottles being thrown. Having a couple of officers escort 2 dozen or so fans out of the stands would, seems to me, fix the problem.

Left click and hold, drag over what you want to copy, right click over the blue and click copy. Go to where you want to put it, right click again and click paste.
And bingo it is pasted right there,>>> Left click and hold, drag over what you want to copy, right click over the blue and click copy. Go to where you want to put it, right click again and click paste.

thanks. I Know how to copy and paste. Just don't know how to set it off in my post so that it looks like something I copied, not just something I typed myself.

State Troopers are at the Clemson and Uof5C games and I don't believe anything would be thrown if 4 to 6 State Troopers were lined across the end zone facing the students.
If any were stupid enough to throw anything while the Troopers were there, then the Troopers could radio and point out who station security should arrest and escort out of the stadium.

I'm thinking it may take a few more than 4. And, I'm thinking they could be standing in the stands, in front of the front row, even closer to the fans than on the field. Put 16 security personnel with a trooper between each of them and that should be more than sufficient, one would think.

Heck, I live here in cootlumbia, and I would volunteer to help them point out the trouble makers for FREE!!! And I would would wear regular clothing without any markings that would insinuate that I'm a fan of either, just a security vest, and I would wouldn't wrongfully point someone out if they hadn't thrown anything regardless of what they were saying, unless they were wanting to get the abusive language folks out also!!! I could and would be 100% neutral, unbiased... But if they throw a chewing gum wrapper, I'm pointing them out bc it could have been a rock wrapped in the chewing gum wrapper!!!

If the first student who throws something from the stands causes one of the state troopers to go all Dirty Harry on him, all the other students will fall in line in short order.

Easier solution, just have the trooper to shoot them with a paintball gun, and just have security to try and get the paint off them on the way out!!!

Brad Scott brought the Walk to Carolina when he was HC at UofSC as it was used at FSU. Even one of Brad’s former players admitted he participated in it for years at Carolina. When Brad came to Clemson he and Tommy had both been using this as learned from Bobby Bowden.

I think a couple of dozen paintball experts should be facing the students. When they spot a student throwing stuff, shoot them with a paintball (maybe orange colored) and have anyone with paint on their clothing arrested ..... kind of like the exploding dye packs used in bank robberies!

They just pretend that their trash throwing has something to do with us. The truth is that they throw trash on the field regularly. Even at their own players sometimes.

They should absolutely have high resolution cameras...

...recording the student section the entire game and make sure they know it.

Serious solution......and practical......
Use that SEC Network money to install a high end camera system. Many cameras filming from every angle. Have someone monitoring said cameras and in communication with security personnel.
Have security personnel remove idiots from the stands as well as the game and positively identify them. On Monday review the tape to make dead sure you got the right person then expel them from school for the semester........yet they still have to pay the student loan.
When a few maroons pay that price word will get around and they’ll knock off their inappropriate behavior.
