A Keen Observation ...

trades.jpg(108.6 K)

I have all the respect in the world for skilled tradesmen ... ok, ok TradesPERSONS .. TradesTHEYS ?

The guy on the left has a Bachelor’s degree & Law degree. He owes over $250,000 in student loans. He works for the Law where he earns $130,000 annually.

The guy on the right is a high school graduate. He has no college education. He works as an Electric Linesman. He owes zero in student loans, and he earns $160,000 annually.

Teach your kids about skilled trades and alternative options to make good income & have low debt. IT’S NOT ABOUT HAVING 50 DEGREES.

or focused schooling imo. maybe 2. no way i needed 4 yrs. degree's are overrated in a lot of cases, especially for the cost.

And make mikeroweWORKS your charity. It costs you nothing, and amazon will donate 0.5% of your purchases to his scholarship foundation for blue collar scholarships.

I have my smile set for a local nonprofit, can you add more so it'll just split?

But the law degree guy will eventually make $250k a year, and can practice well past his 50s. The linesman will eventually make $160k a year, and cannot keep doing line work past his 50s for very long.

My great uncle practiced law until he was in his late 80s

but I sure AF would not have hired him to represent me for anything. I think they just let him keep office hours so he didn't give up on life. He lived to be 96 though.

$160k/year as an Electric Linesman at what appears to be

Sep 10, 2020, 11:11 AM

30 years old? I'm calling BULLSHIT on those numbers. However, your original point still stands.

Yeah, a "normal" lineman doesn't make anywhere...

Sep 10, 2020, 11:21 AM

near $160k/year. A journeyman lineman in the southeast would top out at around $80k-$90k.

Special aerial / helicopter lineman that work on remote transmission lines can make up to around $200k, but that's a very specialized field and there aren't very many of them.

Where's a lineman making $160k per year?

Or are they working 80 hours per week.

Pay in NC is about half that:

https://www.salary.com/research/salary/benchmark/lineman-salary/nc

and other places are less:

https://www.ziprecruiter.com/Salaries/What-Is-the-Average-Electrical-Lineman-Salary-by-State

and, honestly, if someone comes out of law school with that much debt and is only making $130k with no large bump coming, they did it wrong.
