Another Georgia transfer, offensive lineman Cade Mays, is still awaiting a decision on whether he can play right away for Tennessee.
“I'm certainly one who thinks if a kid has a better opportunity to go play somewhere else, that's their choice and we want to support that young man,” Smart said. "But in the SEC, there's rules that are in place about going from one school to another that I'm not really in control of. That's not my decision. That's not my rule. Those rules were voted on by the ADs and presidents, and the commissioner, he has to uphold those."
Dude could have played for a contender instead he bought the bull in Athens...just like Foreman is currently being fed. Apparently Smart is pretty sleazy when it comes to kids wanting to transfer. He feeds them loaded info and puts them in positions where they stay all year which rules them out for the following year. And then acts like, hey man thats the rules, i didn't write them....ITs like the HOtel California down there.

You got everything right except for the sitting the bench part.
He played a ton for UGA last season and still hated it enough to leave.

Most guys leave because of playing time issues or because they move from a small program to a bigger program. He got lots of playing time and left for a worse football program - albeit one in his home town.

from UGA who decided to transfer to Ole Miss and is still awaiting approval from SEC. Also, Joey Gatewood from Auburn went to Kentucky and is waiting on the SEC as well...NCAA approved them both quite some time ago.

This article is worth a read for the salty tears of the Vols!
I disklike UGA as much as the next guy but this Vols writer really gets self-righteous about poor Mays's "legitimate" reasons to transfer where it's very transparent that all of that was lip service because it ticks the proper NCAA boxes. Be careful what you wish for!

in the SEC approved the transfer rule.
I can see both sides of the argument about this year's eligibility, but the fact remains that the rule was in place before he transferred. It wasn't a secret...
It seems like there is some extra drama sprinkled in there by Mayes, Sr.
At the end of the day, Mayes transferred well after the rule was in place.

Hate UGA and Kirby Smart as much as you like, but it's hardly Smart's fault that Mayes' father can't navigate the complexities of a folding chair.

He was also quoted as saying after spurning Clemson he transferred to UT so he would have a chance to beat the Gamecocks!
