I like your enthusiasm but I would put 2018 clemson at #4 all time. In my 42 years here’s my top 5:
2001 Miami 1995 Nebraska 2004 USC 2018 Clemson 2019 LSU

If we're talking the CFB...? The first three don't count, the last wo are spot on!
Go Tigers, and take another one of the top two (in these last wo years)!!!
Go Tigers and kick the Bucknut where it counts!!!

I hate to agree with Bill Connelly but my top 5 would probably be the same. Our 2018 team was great but I thought the 2019 team was almost as good and it didn't show against LSU. I have no problem giving them the top spot for a year over us being the best program during the playoff era.

Smashed? No way.

Competed with? Probably.
Burrow last year was playing probably better than any QB in the history of CFB. He was dropping dimes all over the field and had several 1st round WRs to throw to. Our 2018 defense would've had their hands full slowing down that LSU offense.

I would have loved to see the 2018 defensive line square off on that game.
BV deserves even more honors as while are D was great, kinda amazing he did that during a rebuilding year as far as the front four are concerned. Just came up against a rolling offense and really, BV kept us in, we just could not getour O going against LSU after the first few possessions.

Our 2018 defense was probably one of the best all time. 2018 Bama O was supposed to be the best O of all time...and ran into the unstoppable orange wave that dismantled them.
Although I was surprised at how we struggled with containing that LSU bunch, no question 2018s defense would have clamped down on them much better.
We may not have dominated 2019 LSU but Clemson 2018 wins IMO with the power rangers

Regarding 2018 team - I feel like Kyler McMichael would have been a player for us. He was #2 behind Trayvon Mullen.
We were that dominant with Tre Lamar and Kendall Joseph at linebacker. Crazy Lamar didn’t get drafted - is he playing in the league now?

To do what Clemson could have done to Alabama and Nick Saban if Dabo didn't pull the dogs has to put Clemson number one.

That 2019 LSU team was amazing and I could see them being ranked #1. However I do think that the 2018 Tigers defense was 10 times better than the 2019 Tigers D. The 2018 team could only bring 4 and get pressure. 1 LB as a spy and 6 on the back end to blanket their receivers. The 2019 team for all of their stats couldn't do that against anyone. They had to use exotic blitzes to get any pressure all season long and once LSU figured out their blocking schemes they started rolling.
