What do you think the Committee will do?

Dec 7, 2020, 12:22 PM

Let's work with the following scenario.

Bama wins a high scoring SEC Championship Game with the Gaytors. (< 14 point margin of victory.)

Clemson wins a high scoring ACC Championship Game with Notre Dame. (< 14 point margin of victory.)

You have Clemson and Notre Dame both with head to head one loss records.

You have Texas A&M with a one loss record, with the one loss to Bama. Also, they have a win over Florida.

You have 0310 State undefeated (assumes that the Big 10 fineagles them into the Big 10 Championship game, and they win it.) But, 0310 State has far less games played than other contenders.

Who are the 4 teams that get in?

In the above scenario, hard to think that anything other than some combination of Bama, Clemson, 0310 State, and Notre Dame would be the four teams. What you would basically have is a lobbyist war between the Notre Dame pushers, and the (every year) "two teams from the SEC" pushers. Does anyone see the Committee having more balls than Swoffie and leaving out ND in favor or Bimbo's Boys?

I bet the CFP Selection Committee does, if it’s O-cry-o State.
It’s all about the Benjamins.

What if UF beats Bama in a close one? Plus Clemson wins in

Sometimes good things fall apart so better things can fall together.

OSU should be out.

Dec 7, 2020, 12:35 PM

Not only did they not earn it on the field by actually playing games, their schedule makes the ACC look like the AFC North. Further, they havent LOOKED like a top 4 team either. We have to stop with this idiotic notion that just because a team SHOULD be top 4 on paper that they automatically ARE a top 4 in reality. If you dont have to earn anything, then why bother with a regular season at all.

Yes but they won't be***

will finally man up and beat the Nut Necklaces, just once. Then, the Committee can leave them out without an uproar from anyone other than their own fans.

2 ACC vs. 2 SEC?

Dec 7, 2020, 8:06 PM

2 ACC vs. 2 SEC? Don't think it will happen. Cincinnati will get in if that's the choice. The TV market for 2 ACC and 2 SEC teams isn't there. Follow the $$$$.

In your scenario I think it would end up being or rather "should" end up being - Clemson, Alabama, Notre Dame and Texas A & M! No doubt about!

The CFPC would be setting themselves up for scrutiny beyond belief if they were to put O Cry O St in. Take Indiana out of their teams played and their opponents are weak! Clemson's much criticized ACC opponents have a better winning percentage Syracuse brings ours down. Miami, Wake, Boston College, Virginia all have winning records! Pitt is .500. Notre Dame was #3 when we played.

If you criticize strength of schedule and use it as a difference maker between teams now and moving forward - "you simply cannot include O Cry O St"! They struggled to beat then #9 Indiana "at home"! They beat previously winless Penn State. Michigan State sub .500, Nebraska sub .500 and Rutgers sub .500.

Let them in now with that resume and they will forever not be allowed to talk strength of schedule, period!

Not when A & M would have beaten Florida! And only lost to an undefeated Bama! Clemson and Notre Dame have each other Clemson also has a top 10 win and the previous wins over teams with winning records. Notre Dame played many of the same teams and are currently undefeated including a "lucky A" win over the Tigers! You could not leave either two out assuming Clemson handles business in the ACCCG!

***Note: yes, I could see them letting them in. But, as mentioned - they opening up Pandora's box given the Buckeyes resume!
