Let me get this straight about LSU...

Jan 3, 2020, 12:27 PM

They claim 3 national championships...

1958: When they were forced to share it with Iowa.
2003: When they were forced to share it with USC.
2007: Which has an asterisk because they lost two games that season.

I'm just glad Clemson has never had to deal with anything like that.

Technically, that's only 1.5 championships.

Which is exactly one half of a championship better than UGA.

Kinda sad really.

It’s just too bad we had to share our 1981 championship with two-loss Penn State and our 2016 CFP Championship with Alabama. Of course our close loss to Bama in 2015 means it’s entirely theirs with no split.

You know, I have actually tried to maintain the high road and not make slights against LSU and their season. They have had a great season and absolutely could win it all. That said some of you are acting like you never were in a dogfight during several games. let us reflect for just a moment. some of your toughest games were Auburn, Florida in Texas. While I would have to double-check, off-the-cuff I think that combined those schools I have about 14 losses. Yes before you even bring it up we absolutely we're flat and got taken to the wire by UNC. Often forgotten fact however that everyone in the media and other fan bases likes to ignore. Even if you NC had scored this wonderful two point conversion to have won the game there was still over a minute left on the clock. Had they scored Trevor and Company have shown the ability to go the length of the field two and a half as good as anyone that has played in recent years. There was still a lot of time even had the hills scored. Outside of that no one has even come close until Ohio State. You know the team that we played that actually had a heartbeat and a defense.

... and the other so-called Blue Bloods

Jan 3, 2020, 1:03 PM

Speaking of National Titles...

"Blue Blood" OH State has TWO in the last 50 years. Three in 51 yrs if you add in the 1970 3 way split with Nebraska/Texas (per NCAA website). Clemson has 3 in that time span & is playing for number 4.

How about "Blue Blood" Michigan? Split with Nebraska in 1997. ONE in the last 50 years. Clemson has 3 & playing for number 4.

How about the renowned Fighting Irish? They have three in the past fifty years--tied with Clemson. Last one was 32 years ago (1988) when Ronald Reagan was President. They DID make the playoff last year.

The venerable Cornhuskers have 5 since 1970. Last one was 23 years ago in 1997. That trophy would likely be graduating college this year. That was nice then, but how are they doing now? Pretty much irrelevant.

Maybe the real USC? They have had two this century (03 & 04) and 5 since 1970. Very respectable & some success relatively recently.

Alabama, by FAR has the most impressive performance over the past 50 years with 9 titles - 5 of them since 2009.

Alabama aside, this is why I find the comments belittling Clemson's "recent" success as the "new kid on the block" so laughable. They reek of jealousy.

Of course, this Clemson run won't last forever either so enjoy the moment(s) while were in it!

Dude, I lived in Baton Rouge for a year. Don’t delude yourself that LA is better than SC in any important way. I have never encountered more trashy people living in dilapidated shacks as I saw during that year. And that silly “Cajun” slogan on everything from liquor stores to coin operated laundromats. military_donation.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: Let me get this straight about LSU...

Jan 4, 2020, 10:31 AM

OK,

1. LSU was the consensus National Champion in 1958 being #1 in both AP and Coaches polls and several minor polls. Iowa was #1 in a minor poll.

2. LSU won the BCS National Championship game in 2003. USC only was #1 in a poll that had become meaningless since the advent of the BCS. You can't be a national champion if you were not in the championship game and USC was not.

3. There is no asterisk at all. There were no undefeated contenders. LSU was the best 2-loss team in the country with two triple-overtime loses on the road against conference opponents. Then LSU beat the 1-loss number one team in the country in the BCS championship game.

Since the advent of the BCS and the FCS playoffs, there is no controversy at all about who the national champion is.
