Jan 12, 2021, 3:02 PM

and not budging.

I don't know if it's my stubbornness or if it's b/c I don't want the process to end.....like it's kind of enjoyable

Say this is on account of missed work.

pond. My new neighbor says he will sell me some acreage, but he wants a bit more than the appraisal value. It has a decent creek so hopefully, cost to build a pond will not be too much.

Buying a truck and digging a pond

It's not your fault.

Jan 12, 2021, 4:00 PM

It's not our fault either.

Blame folks with ugly and/or prudish cousins, who have stigmatized interbreeding with family. It's their fault.

dealerships. I HATE buying a car. I used to know an honest salesman (there is exactly ONE) and we had an agreement, I'd buy it at $1K profit for them. Sold me three cars that way. He's retired now. Went back his dealership and haven't spent a penny there as they were not honest.

Best bet us to haggle down one dealer, then another dealer, then another. Return to the highest dealer and say you would like to get it from them but it had to be THIS, which was slightly lower than the lowest dealer. They'll do it usually. And don't mention a tradein. If not, turn to walk away as you can always go to the lowest offer. They will know this and relent.

Freaking hate it. I could never sell cars for a living. I'd rather be a lawyer.

Seems like most of them say, yes we have it, this is the

price.

They also say, when would you like to come in and look at this truck.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

If you buy it at their price, you paid prolly $5-8K too much

Jan 12, 2021, 3:17 PM

I've haggled a Camry down $4K+. Almost 20% savings. But sure, you can walk in there and pay the sticker price any time. The guy I knew, their dealership sticker price was $1k profit. So there was no need to go somewhere else and haggle. You'd never get a better deal. They're gone now, new ownership.

They left the screw loose last time they changed my oil. I marked my tires and they didn't rotate them either.

Done with them.

Apparently that is not the case anymore

Jan 12, 2021, 3:18 PM

I know what you mean, but you are wrong.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Been 4 years since I bought a car.

Jan 12, 2021, 3:21 PM

Maybe it's changed. But I've never paid sticker for a car in my life. Parents never did. Wife never has. Actually bought a 2018 Honda Odyssey, forgot about that. Dealer came down $3.5K.

2024 orange level memberbadge-donor-15yr.jpgringofhonor-tiggity-110.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Sorry, you said "their price"....So they list their price

Jan 12, 2021, 3:22 PM

aprrox 8-10K off sticker already.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Then that may be a different deal.

Jan 12, 2021, 3:24 PM

Some dealerships are like that, or were around here. Not anymore for Toyota or Hondas though.

Agree that brands may differ

Jan 12, 2021, 3:26 PM

And how easy it is for them to sell a car (at the time) may also strengthen or weaken their hand.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

r/askcarsalesmen or something like that is filled with

Jan 12, 2021, 3:15 PM [ in reply to Lol. It can take hours of negotiating at multiple ]

stories of people who try to sell cars and cannot because it just sucks. Then there are people on there who brag about making $200k. I enjoy some of the posts there, so I read them a good bit. Also has good advice for haggling, sometimes, and then great stories about people rolling over $20k in upside down equity onto another car just to have the newest nicest thing.

2024 purple level memberringofhonor-greenr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I dunno why I let em, but someone wanted to run the trade

Jan 12, 2021, 3:17 PM

value on my car....I said it will be pointless, trade value is 21 and it's worth 24-25.

They insisted and came back with 20.
