Fox Sports Fires Sportscaster for His Christian Faith
Sep 27, 2013, 12:03 PM
|
|
I know James is not everyone's favorite analyst but this is just not right.
Fox Sports fires sportscaster for his Christian faith September 26, 2013
Although initially heralded as a great addition to the Fox Sports Southwest sportscast team, the Fox Sports network decided to fire Craig James after learning of his Christian faith...after only one day on the job! Craig James was fired as a Fox Sports sportscaster as a result of sharing his religious beliefs publicly. A Fox spokesperson said, "We just asked ourselves how Craig's statements would play in our human resources department. He couldn't say those things here." What did James say that was so egregious that he deserved to be fired? As a candidate during a Texas U.S. Senate campaign in 2010, Craig James said his Christian faith clearly outlined his position on gay marriage and pledged he would not support same-sex unions. He also stated he was "adamantly opposed to abortion." Because of his personal faith (and for no other reason), Fox Sports fired Mr. Craig James. Fox is now trying to spin this, saying he wasn't fired for religious reasons. Sports Illustrated isn't buying it, Dallas News isn't buying it and neither are we! This is clearly a case of religious discrimination by Fox Sports and an attempt by the network to silence those who stand on God's word concerning marriage and abortion.
You can send an email to Fox Sports urging them to put aside their anti-Christian intolerance and reinstate Craig James on the Fox Sports Southwest Facebook page.

His hiring wasn't covered with the higher up in the company, and they decided they didn't want him associated with their brand. He is now gong with the Christian persecution angle because that is the most convenient card to play right now.

for hiring him. He was toxic to begin with.
They deserve the backlash they get. If someone else hired him without the approval of the higher ups then they may be out the door as well. But as controversial and well known as he was a few years ago Im guessing all parties were well aware of who was being put on the payroll.

Uhh no. Somewhere Milke Leach is laughing his behind off.
James is a twit and a horrible announce. dumb to ever consider hiring him. And the fact he has a stance on gay marriage that is now unpopular is why he got fired not his faith. That is a convenient excuse

He was not fired for his beliefs.
He was fired for injecting his beliefs needlessly on TV. Shocker this is reported by Fox.
He also would have been fired had he took a stance like that with any other religion.

They didn't fire him because he was Christian. They did not all of a sudden find out he was Christian, and then decided, we don't employ Christians, we must fire him. They fired him because he spouts off at the mouth, is a terrible image for their brand, and is an all around bad sportscaster.

Craig James is not politically correct, thus he has no freedom of speech. Anything is pretty much tolerated in our oh so tolerant society, except God's Holy Word. God Bless Craig James. We need more like him.

Nobody stopped the citizens of the Old USSR from saying anything they wanted. They did suffer the consequences, if they spoke out against the Communist. By your reasoning, they had freedom of speech. Maybe it is you that does not understand real freedom of speech.

Being fired from a job for something you say is viewpoint discrimination. If you say something somebody does not like and they fire you for it, that is limiting free speech. You have to watch everything you say, unless you offend somebody. Why is it OK to discriminate against someone with a biblical worldview?

Yup, she gets it. You can say what you want, but people don't have to like it, and you can fire someone for it. Yup pretty simple, she agrees that she can take a dump wherever she pleases, but I'm not going to shrug my shoulders and call it freedom of expression.

Using your same logic: Why is OK to discriminate against someone with a racist worldview? That would limiting his right to free speech.
Free speech is protection from the government. Fox Sports is a business, not a governmental body.

it was a regional affiliate of Fox Sports and they didn't clear it with the brass at the national office.
Once the national Fox Sports office heard he had been hired, he was immediately let go. No sports network in the country would touch Craig James with a 10 foot pole after his ruthless campaign against Mike Leach, polarizing statements he's made (you can spin this as religion if you want to), and a career of lackluster broadcasting.
There's also a rumor that Craig James killed 5 hookers while at SMU, a claim he's never refuted.

why do so many people not understand Freedom of Speech?
Sep 27, 2013, 8:30 PM

I see this same freaking crap all the #### time. There is a huge difference between "freedom of speech" and "consequences of that free speech". Here's a simple example:
You walk into a company meeting on Monday morning and start telling very ugly racist jokes. Or making sexually explicit comments about that new girl in Accounting.
Yes, you have "freedom of speech"... the Gestapo is not going to drag you off to a concentration camp outfitted with the special shower heads.
But ... Human Resources is going to come to your office later in the afternoon with a cardboard box and ask you to pack up your personal stuff and turn in your key.
Why is this so difficult to understand??

Anytime some people disagree with consequences or get manipulated into believing some biased misrepresentation of facts by an agenda-driven blog they try to turn it into a Freedom of Speech issue to try to generate support. I'm not sure if they actually believe it's about freedom of speech or if they're just trying to get the idiots to support them.

They didn't fire him because he's christian, they fired him because he's a total douchcanoe. Do you really think Fox doesn't like christians...seriously, think about it and get back to us.

This is an egregious misrepresentation of facts.

There are numerous things wrong with what you posted. I can only assume that you read this on a blog or agenda driven website and just took it at face value. It' s important to always consider the source when you read something online. It never hurts to research things for yourself either.
Regardless of whether you believe the Fox Sports explanation of his firing about how he wasn't approved for employment by executives, the segment of the article you posted is dripping with misinformation.
First, the statement made by Fox spokesperson was not in reference to James' religious beliefs nor his opinion on same-sex marriage.
Secondly, while he did make a statement about being against gay marriage because of his religion and that homosexuality is merely an immoral choice, he didn't speak about abortion during this event. His view of abortion was taken from his website so the author of this original blog as a reference to other conservative views held by James. Other websites that picked up the story edited the content to make it appear that his view on abortion was related to his termination.
Also, Sports Illustrated never claimed he was fired for his religion. They simply posted the news of his termination after one day without commenting on the reasons. It was the Dallas Morning News not the Dallas News that was involved and all they did was report a statement that was given to them by a Fox spokesperson. They never stated or alluded to anything about James being fired for religion.
It's ridiculous how the original author uses parentheses to insert the words "and for no other reason" mid=sentence to try to sway the reader into forming an opinion. Non-biased news lets the facts speak for themselves without injecting comments to manipulate readers.
I know I'm nitpicking on this one, but even the comment about emailing Fox on their Facebook page left out some information. You can't email someone on their facebook page. You can email someone or comment on their facebook page. The person that edited the article didn't even include the part giving the email address or saying to comment on facebook.
Ultimately, regardless of your religious or political view, any objective person can see that this is an attempt to turn his firing into a religious debate and generate false controversy.

he needs to keep his political and religious comments off the air.
Imagine he was a muslim and was talking about his views on the koran, women, or homosexuality. I'm sure there would have been an uproar.
Just because you agree with what he was saying doesn't mean he should be airing it.
