Sounds like we may see Chad Kelly on the field this year?

According to Dabo, Chad Kelly is challenging for the number 2 spot and he is looking good so far. Dabo said he is making things happen and moving the ball no matter what unti he is with. I think Chad Morris will put in some packages and give Kelly alot of snaps under center this fall. We need a good QB who can run this offense and if something happens to Boyd that can go in to lead this team to victory. I am pulling for Kelly to be the number 2 QB this year. It has been said he has the best footwork of any QB on roster and runs better than all the others. I think if they red shirt Kelly this year he transfers. I think he has to much talent not to be used this year. Go ahead and bash me for saying this but he is a freshman this fall (Boyd is a jr) next year Kelly is a Soph while Boyd is a Sr. Kelly becomes the starter when he is a Jr (and we have two years with him) and then the QB commit we have for 2014 signs and he will be a freshman as Kelly is a jr. And he backs up Kelly for two years and then he starts when he is a jr. If you look at the most successful programs I think you will see this trend. Go Tigers!!!

Chad Kelly needs a year on the bench to let his ego deflate, and learn the playbook. Just my humble opinion

why waste a year. If they decide to RS him, he will be fine.

Kelly is the ONLY backup QB we have on the roster who can come in and replace Boyd if need be that can lead this team to wins. The others cannot run the complete package due to being limited on their abilities. Kelly can run, pass and has the best foot work all he needs is to learn the system better and what better way to learn than to get some playing time this year. To win this year we need Kelly on the field as much as possible this year. If Kelly gets red shirted and Boyd goes down so does our season!

He wouldnt have come to Clemson, He knew the entire time that Boyd would be ahead of him, He knew that what he would be competing for for his first (and maybe second) year would be for 2nd string.

I think Kelly wants to be the #2 this year. And he has a good shot at doing it. He will not RS if he can master the playbook and I think he'll get significant snaps vs. Ball St. or possibly even 3rd and short run packages vs. Allbarn.

I agree, well said, Kelly came in wanting to be the number two QB this year and according to the coaches he is making it hard on them not to make him the number two. If he can master a good part of the offense in the next few weeks I think he will win the spot and avoid redshirt.

He can play in games 1-3 and still RS.

He can back up, not play unless tragedy happens, and let the others do mop up duty.

If memory serves me correct, if you play any and aren't injured, no red shirt.

IMO, I think Dabo's plan is to redshirt Kelly and will do so

as long as Tajh stays healthy. I don't think Dabo and Co. want to waste a redshirt if Tajh is ready to play each day. I think we can get enough out of Cole if we need spot duty here or there, we saw this last year.
Now if Tajh gets hurt and is looking at missing significant game time and the coaches feel that Chad gives us the best chance to win, I think that's the situation to pull the redshirt. That will be up to the coaches though.
It's good to hear that Chad is doing well so far. Always keep in mind though when you hear things about pushing for spots is that coaches never stop with their "coach speak" and while Chad may be doing great, they also may be saying things like that publicly to see how Cole and Morgan respond.
