I assume these guys can command respectable NIL packages. Are we competitive with bigger, richer school? Or are these guys just sold on Dabo’s way of doing things and are foregoing some NIL money?

That's the best answer...combined with Dabo and the rest of the staff...all recruits are not money grubbers...there is not enough money to replicate what you see and feel at Clemson at a place like FSU, or Texas A&M, or Baton Rouge, have you ever been to Tennessee or Columbia...nuff said!

I mean we’ve always landed these caliber of recruits. Go back and look. I mean I could name them off but that would be a long list of elite recruits. I mean you can go back to 2020. That was the highest rated class I think we’ve ever signed

Recruits have noticed we are putting together a formidable coaching staff in Dabo's next phase of our development as a football powerhouse.
When we were rolling with Alabama I think we were a little premature to think we were Alabama's equal ( myself included ).
I believe we became somewhat lackadaisical in our approach and paid a hefty price.
Riley is the reason we picked up Moore and Wesco. That got the ball rolling. Then D line studs dropped in when we got Rumph. Paired with Eason , there are no better pair in the country.
Fast Forward to Luke and there's no denying it made an immediate impact.
Like Dabo always says. The best is yet to come. Sit back and enjoy the ride.
A sleeping giant has awakened

the past.
There are three things in our trophy case with two being recent: National Championships, and despite the past three years, Clemson is still regarded highly...something recruits pick up on. Toss in expertise in recruiting plus the efforts of our team and new recruits, and you have a potent recipe. The icing on the cake is the "Wow" factor of that first visit to our campus and community. It lives and breathes all that is highly-popular with college football.
Ask most any Clemson alumnus why they hold unbridled passion for our school, and you'll understand why we say, "There's something in those hills!"

So if these highly recruited kids are looking for the highest bidder, looking for some place where they might benefit the most financially, you see that as a lack of integrity? Choosing a school because of the coach = integrity. Choosing a school for the school (whatever that means) = integrity. Choosing a school for the financial opportunities it might present to perhaps help your family = lack of integrity.

Just out of curiosity, you think the kids that want money upfront have more integrity than the kids who choose a school because of other reasons, and know that they can earn the NIL money? I’m not saying that’s what is happening here, I just wanted to know your stance.
I think Clemson not taking any impact portal players is huge for OL recruiting because they usually don’t get the biggest deals any way. They would be more concerned about having a chance to develope. It is rare that a Freshman OL is ready for the college level.

No, I don't believe wanting money up front demonstrates integrity over choosing the school or coach. I think NIL is now just one of several variables that lead players to make a choice and while I see the downsides to NIL, I don't think factoring a money into the decision is somehow a lack of integrity. If a player can choose a school, get an education, be developed to his potential, all while earning money which may make his family's life easier, I don't know why anyone assumes that's a character flaw. We all make decisions to better our lives and the lives of our families. I suspect most of this "integrity" stuff is just another way to take shots at other programs. Choose Clemson - decision based on integrity. Choose any other school - kid is selfish.

I absolutely think players out there pitting schools against each other to drive up a price and strictly signing with the school that out bid the others shows a lack of integrity or at the very least shows greed.
Now for the ones that look at NIL as one of the other many things a school can provide, I think they absolutely have as much integrity as the next guy. Those guys also aren’t playing the game with schools. They take visits, talk with the coaches and when they decide they commit and that’s it.
The money guys drag things out and will show a favorite one week then all the sudden a school they was never in it shows up with the bag and boom there’s a new favorite.

Isn't pitting teams against one another for the best deal exactly what pro agents do for their clients? Why does that suddenly reflect an absence of integrity for a college kid? Something special happen to make it ethical for young men who have exhausted their college eligibility but a character flaw for those who haven't?

Those are professionals and even in their case the ones with true Character will often times choose the best fit vs the biggest payout.
It’s technically still illegal to use collectives to recruit players. The problem is the NCAA can’t differentiate what’s a true pay for play from collectives and an “NIL” deal.
I know we will agree to disagree but I still feel is poor Character for those that strictly choose the dollar.

Funny thing is you can go to almost any teams board and they say the same thing about other schools. I doubt anybody on a Uga site is bragging about how they came to Athens and then taken down to the strip club and got them laid and that is why they are coming to Uga. I could care less about what other fans think of my team but every time someone says something on this site we can count on your a** licking self to make a comment.

Actually, choosing a school with a 44% graduation rates shows a lack of seriousness on making sure that your players get an education, which should be the first reason they even go to school/ UGA, in my days got a lot of players from South Carolina because they could not qualify academically at Clemson ...... fact. Seems like that hasn't changed much.

IMO, they are coming to Clemson because there is a HC and Culture that won't "kick them to the Kirb(y) for a transfer. If they take a year to develop or have a bad year, they get a chance to grow on and off the field.

The highest bidder is the money side. If they are choosing based on who is offering the highest bid to attend their school, Clemson is most certainly not it and it's likely, considering our slim offer sheet, that we are hip to what's afoot and aren't pursuing.
Integrity might not be the right word there for sure, just different immediate priorities at this stage that don't align with Dabo's approach to team.

You do realize that it is against the rules to entice a hs recruit with a promise of x amount of money before they sign. I know following the rules isn’t exactly your school’s concern.

Agree. The wise ones pick Clemson and block out all the noise. It's a marriage of equality. And I'm sure getting some money helps but if you've worked a hard and are willing to delay some gratification, you know that your future is bright laying a foundation of education, perspiration, and dedication regardless of your pro potential.

Clemson has been very competitive with recruits in regard to NIL, and that's according to the parents of the recruits, but again, this is a situation where Clemson won't get into a bidding war. There was a RB last year that wanted $85K a month in NIL for instance.

Clemson doesn’t offer squat to recruits other than opportunities to better themselves. They explain that their players will have NIL opportunities based on their performance and brand as they would elsewhere and they have resources in place to educate and help them with their brand development to maximize those opportunities. It’s just one more of the many life skills dev type programs that Clemson has in place to be successful on and off the field and beyond Clemson and football.

NIL is probably something contrived between the NCAA, SEC, and ESPN so professional cheaters could get a head start on everyone else and the NCAA would not have to punish anyone! Make this a money game only...no worry about academics, gambling interests, get the money and run to the NFL...now they can pay for their own crab legs!

I think there are kids out there that are not all about money up front. They know the money will come. I think Dabo and his stag g are good at targeting kids with good character who want to be in a family atmosphere where they can still be kids and go to school and get enough money to buy them a nice car and get a good apartment and have enough to take their girl out for a nice meal or two. Plus get to play at a top 5-10 school that has a chance to make a playoff run

Another factor on the NIL side with HS recruits is getting a read for a kid's parents as well, as they are ultimately part of the package. Questionable influences there can really cause a mess down the road. It isn't just because Dabo's a great guy that parents and family of his charges get so much emphasis in recruitment and the program. That side is an integral part of the screening process in helping set expectations.

I honestly think covid killed our recruiting bc we cohort get them on campus and it wasn't a REAL experience when we didhost them with all the masks etc. I also think dabos recent outside hires have turned the corner on the quality and commitment of the program. We are consistently striving for better and commitment matters.

I’ve thrown out that Covid was a bigger issue than NIL or the portal many times but the NIL Bros just don’t want to hear it. Everything has to be someone’s fault and they have to be the one’s who figured it out.

When we don't get them, it's because of NIL and unethical recruiting tactics by other teams.
When we do get them, it's because we have great recruiters and "something in these hills."

Major upgrades to the staff really helps.
Dabo replaced two of our least experienced coaches with two great coaches. That makes a huge difference. Austin and Hall did not have a track record of putting dudes in the NFL. Luke and Rumph do. That matters to these kids.

I wonder how financially secure these kids' families are. Perhaps that helps minimize the lure of big NIL money.

1) Most of these guys care about their relationship with God. I know some of yall don't think their are elite young men out there that are religious, but there are. Dabo makes a relationship with God part of his program(which also drives a bunch of you bonkers). 2) Dabo has a track record of loyalty to his players. IE not going crazy in the portal or effectively kicking guys off the team. The guy really wants his players to blossom at Clemson. 3) Matt Luke, Nick Eason, and Chris Rumph have a track record of developing NFL talent. 4) Clemson is a beautiful campus and some guys don't want to be tied up in what comes along with being in a big market city.

1 is the post-COVID era & getting guys back on campus. Think the point has been made that all the in-person events & evaluations being nixed hurt our recruiting.
Another with the OL is the new hire. Luke has a solid track record as a OL coach & that resonates with guys that want to play for a coach that can prepare them for aspirations for the next level.
Another I do think ties into this current wild west world w/ portal & NIL. I do feel HS kids are eventually gonna notice which 1s are wanting portal guys over HS guys, 1s who are using portal to process out guys (which I do think is something happening), & 1s who are treating things more as a business transaction as opposed to building a long-term relationship. & when that happens, that's gonna make Clemson & how our program is built very attractive to those guys.

Improved coaching staff, transfer stance, and believing that in your third year of development here you are not going to be replaced by a transfer and lose all of your good work put in!!!!

Clemson exerts a certain force which attacks those of high character values. The two are mutually attracted.

I think these HS kids/recruits ARE commanding respectable NIL packages at Clemson. We don't have the resources that big schools are throwing around buying players. We aren't wasting NIL on buying portal players, which lets us be more competitive with HS kids on NIL. Plus, Clemson sells itself. Family, faith, integrity, getting a degree, trust, fairness, Dabo makes a commitment to the kids and their parents. Dabo is preparing young men for a life after football. Many other schools are high grading kids and sifting off "the chaff" every year. Dabo is such a statistics nerd, always quoting numbers from the SID, etc. I'll guaran-dadgum-tee you he is constantly compiling numbers on how many kids are losing, being discarded in this cutthroat NIL/portal mess. I've hypothesized this before. I think this NIL/portal mess lines right up for Dabo's philosophy. There's a lot to like about Clemson. I believe we are getting this NIL business figured out too. That's just my perception. May be wrong.
