FSU Speculation

I was catching up on FSU law suit news and speculation on internet last night. One blog post of three characters were saying that FSU, Miami and ND along with a 4th school (Clemson NOT mentioned at all as 4th but others we would never mention, were mentioned) would go to BIG.
One blog, which I have not put link to, did make a comment that I think has merit. They stated that the landing spot for FSU would NOT be decided by the SEC or the BIG, but by FOX and ESPN. I can believe that since the TV now controls college FB. Every show I watched was pretty convinced that FSU would be gone from ACC at end of 2024 season.
The NC ACC law suit has a hearing before the judge later in march. The one by FSU in Florida court will be heard in April. If the judge in NC decides case is heard in NC and if judge in FL decides case is heard in Fl, lawyer says it will end up in Federal court.
This is worth a listen.
Don't shoot the messenger. I am not the podcaster. Make up your own minds about what is said.

gotta feeling that its either the ACC or the Big 12 for Clemson. SEC won't take

us under the current set up bc the Coots will block it and the Big 10 just doesn't seem sold on Clemson as a fit from my limited research on the issue... and vice versa. I think we'll be ACC branded at the end of all of this. Unless the SEC decides to change the game and split into two conferences thus looking to fill out two mega conferences under one brand.
FSU is gone. I could see the Big10 wanting those teams mentioned and probably UVA or UNC. Clemson doesn't have that accreditation that they require in the Big10. And personally I wouldn't want to watch us play rutgers or michigan state every year.. those are places I'm not interested in visiting to watch a game.

The speculation I’ve seen is the SEC continuing on a regional footprint expansion. Thus going after UVA and UNC. This seems like a outdated strategy by ESPN to boost SECN carriage revenue into NC and Virginia. What the conference gets is two football programs to beat up on vs. adding more schools with competitive football to challenge the top dogs. I could almost buy into this speculation.

On the Big10 side, the info seems to be that UNC and FSU have been evaluated by Fox and approved. However, the future CFP changes brings ND back into play. The Big10 presidents love UNC, and Fox covets the Florida media market. It seems Clemson is going to get squeezed out of this round of realignment as the Big10 stops at 20 after choosing two of the three above. I’m guessing ND and FSU who both have resources to buy out of the ACC. UNC then lands with the SEC after ESPN declines on the ACC contract option. That’s when I see Clemson getting the green light to exit at a discount because the GOR value collapses without a media partner beyond 2027. At that point the next round of realignment gets triggered. Clemson could land in either Big10 or SEC depending on the business landscape in 2025 or 2026. How’s that for crazy speculation on my part?

One reason I think the SEC goes after Clemson is to get media rights to the Clemson-USC rivalry game every season. If you think about football viewership numbers as maximizing football matchups every week then that’s one way to cash in on a high viewership game. I’d expect ESPN to force the game to be moved to an earlier weekend to avoid overlap with other SEC rivalry games.

It’s cute you think USC holds that much power, they don’t. They also have a board that has a heavy influence from the state legislature. If you believe the state legislature will sit back and allow one state supported university to cause another state supported university from making more money I have ocean front property in Arizona for you. It’s not happening. Further more I don’t think the SEC cares. Look no farther than Texas AM and Texas.

The NC state legislature has introduced a bill prohibiting UNC and NCSU from joining any conference without the other being also a member. The BIG and the SEC and the media don't give a hoot about NCSU. They would love to have UNC and Duke together for the BB game rivalry. The networks are looking at keeping high viewership on the rivalries.
I honestly don't know where Clemson ends up. I don't think Clemson and FSU are tied at the hip any longer. We have sucked up to the ACC too long. It may end up biting us in the ###.
The ESPN claim that their GOR contract with ACC is not to be seen by anyone because it will reveal Trade secrets is BS. Under that reasoning, any contract could never be reviewed by attorneys before you sign if the party claimed it would reveal trade secrets. There is speculation that the reason ESPN and the ACC does not want anyone seeing the contract is because there were some special under the table deals made that gave some schools more money or money towards facilities than other schools. I would not put that past Swofford to try and get special deals for the NC schools, and esp. UNC. There is a reason the ACC and ESPN does not want that contract seen by anyone.

Anyone who believes that ESPN BS about trade secrets is dumber than a rock. This suit will be settled by the ACC BECAUSE they and ESPN do not want their dirty backroom deals revealed. Take it to the bank. I want Clemson out of the ACC. FSU is that ticket out. The ACC sucks and has never been a friend of Clemson. If the ACC collapsed tomorrow, I would be happy.

I doubt the chickens could stop our moving to the SEC if the the money bags want it. Other factors may stop us, but not them.
Personally, I have wanted us to leave this conference for 50+ years. I don’t care whether it’s B1G or SEC (my personal preference is SEC, though). I’m just sick of the ACC.
I have a feeling that what’s going to happen is there will be a new conference structure in college football developed within the next ten years or so involving the top 50 or 60 football schools. How that structure will develop I have no idea, and likely no one else does at this stage either. Too many factors in play. But some sort of evolution is inevitable. We are probably stuck where we are until that happens.

I’ve felt this way for quite a while. I don’t think the Coots have the power to block - I just don’t think the SEC is a rush to expand now without a catalyst (like the B1G trying to grab a southern team).

The conferences will base their selections on appeal/viewership. This puts the emphasis on winning. If the coaching overhaul produces results i.e. ACC championships and deep runs in the 12 team playoffs you'll see Clemson fans coming out of the woodwork and it will make the program more appealing to ESPN, FOX, SEC and B1G in that order.

Some comments from me and my perspective.

First, a little background on Doug Rohan. He is an FSU grad and an unapologetic Seminole. He's a season sticket holder, a big time $$ booster member and is one of the leaders in the Atlanta area Seminole Booster Club. He admits that openly.
So, while he admits that, he also does a fairly good job (to me, a non-lawyer) trying to present both sides of the legal argument. He's not just spouting the "FSU good, ACC bad" tirade.
Second, "speculation" is a great word. I love folks speculating, as long as they admit it is speculation. I find it humorous when people claim to have inside information when in fact they are just speculating.
I've speculations all over the place. I've made my own. As for Clemson I've heard speculation just all over the place. Clemson to SEC. Clemson to B1G. Clemson to Big 12. Clemson will stay in ACC because no one wants them. ACC will implode and Clemson will end up in AAC.
Speculation - just keep that in mind when you hear social media folks saying things.
As for me, I still believe (speculate) that FSU and Clemson are a package deal. They will go together. But, I'm not as confident at that as I was 6 months ago.
I am beginning to believe that Fox and ESPN will call the shots. If they can agree on who goes to which conference and agree to pay those conferences more money, then the conferences will comply.
My guess (speculation) today is the Clemson and FSU will be in the SEC. (That is a minority opinion among Noles. Most Noles think FSU will end up in B1G.
My guess as to the timing is, this will be the last year in the ACC for Clemson and FSU.

Good analysis. But I am losing hope that FSU and Clemson end up together. I think FSU wants to join BIG. When they were independent, they didn't really care about joining the SEC and chose the ACC. After the SEC screwed them last year, I don't think they want any part of it. But that is my speculation.
The lawyer from Atlanta is pretty fair in his assessment even though he is a big FSU supporter. I thought he did a pretty good job explaining the lawsuit on both sides.

The ones that got screwed was Georgia. 29 wins in a row in a football conference and back to back national titles.

It's that pesky word "Lost" that has most if not all SEC fans confused. We I say all SEC fans but the likes of USuC have "Lost" slapping them in the face most weeks during football season. Well they do have WBB to fall back on. But how much longer does Dawn stay at USuC?

Hurt feelings will heal quickly if ESPN outbids Fox and tells the SEC, "This is who we want."
Just like when FSU joined the ACC. Money drove the train. Back then, things were far different than today. The ACC basektball TV deal was so much better than the SEC deal was it more than made up for the difference in football deals. FSU joined the ACC because they made more money doing so.

Tell the rest of the story. Bobby Bowden ran from the SEC. In an interview he said it "Would be crazy to go over there. You could get three losses a year". You guys wanted in a weak conference to win it every year and be in a national title hunt. Well, finally, its not totally the record but whom you play factors in. Bobby got what he wanted. Be the big fish in a small mudpuddle.

We at Clemson have said nothing a out joining the suit...FSU is stupid you can't break a contract thet you have agreed t o twice and made tons of money from! FSU is suing all of us as well...SOL has left the building...estoppel, contract law no evidence and something so stupid as claiming that the president of your university had no right to sign it but waiting 9 years to itch about it! Which conference is going to be wanting to join forces with an institution with a law school but without a brain on the whole board! GOR is a contract...you don't dump it cause you find out 15 years later that you might have gotten a better deal!

Scar couldn't block The Citadel from getting into the SEC if the SEC wanted them. Women's bball championships might keep you from being forgotten as a member, but don't make you relevant to ESPN. But still would rather hear that Clemson is a top contender for the BIG, bummer.

McKenzie Law has not been cross examined. THE state of Fl. Is not spending a million plus dollars on a weak case. The Fl. AG office is smarter about Fl. law than McKenzie Law. system. Of the the things all state AG'S DO IS TO interpret state law for those in the Florida Judicial system. MCZKENZIE LAW destroys nothing.
This case will end up in Federal Court. The ACC will settle with FSU ONCE DEPOSITIONS start.

Of the the things all state AG'S DO IS TO interpret state law for those in the Florida Judicial system. MCZKENZIE LAW destroys nothing.
This case will end up in Federal Court. The ACC will settle with FSU ONCE DEPOSITIONS start.
Do you realize how ridiculous you sound? Florida AG's office is not involved. FSU hired a national law firm, Greenberg Traurig, to represent it.

Which Fla law are you discussing...not contract law...not copyright law...sunshine laws don't apply to contracts...contracts were in Charlotte...FSU presidents signed both...SOL expired long ago...and you can't sue over a contract where you profited until you sued...estoppel...FSU has not given Clemson our money back...When FSU leaves they may get sued by ESPN and each member of the ACC individually! Have fun with that one...let's hitch our wagon to a jacka** cause Indians eat horses! Don't send your son to the FSU lawschool!
