Is anyone a little stuck on Dabo’s almost belligerent insis-

tence through the season that all was well with the offense and that questioning that was out of bounds. I understand keeping morale up in the locker room but some players had to see that all was not well.
But giant kudos to Dabo for making the OC move and trying to get us back to elite. I am proud of him for those moves.
It’s just that his in season and current actions are a bit of a dichotomy.

Class of ‘71. Went through “rat season” and glad I did.

Dabo is the head coach, the head coach makes decisions related to the program. Class dismissed enjoy your day.

I think that was just coach speak. It appeared to me that DJ had to be handled with kids gloves so as not to damage his confidence. Whatever the case may be, it did not seem to help.

And the sideline reporter talked about how Dabo built an hour long sizzle reel for DJ of his highlights to try and instill confidence. Hearing that it was obvious Dabo’s speech all season was strategic to trying to keep DJ afloat while Cade was getting ready. Same thing with Streeter and the offense all year. We see every spring Dabo will highlight 2 or 3 players and talk them up to the moon and they will never be seen in the regular season. Moral is Dabo says what he says publicly for a reason but it is zero insight to what is actually going on or what his true feelings are.

.....which is almost the true definition of "DISHONESTY." Call it Coach Speak, Politics Speak, News Speak.......they all do it. Saying the "Right thing" to the press has almost become an excuse, or a definition , for lying.

So did you enjoy your break from Tigernet last season? ;) Because it seems like you weren't reading many posts if you are just showing up now with this question. But in a word "yes". MANY of us were citing Dabo's "stubborness" and "blind loyalty" to his coaches when the product on the field was "offensive".

I have mentioned this before but I have been told that the players believe Dabo to be very loyal and that the players love that about him. Also DJ was very popular on the team.

I put the DJ debacle more on Streeter. He seemed to defend DJ more than Dabo, to the point of getting down right animated after one game. Maybe Dabo trusted Streeter to play the best guy and was seeing something that we obviously did not see and thought DJ gave us the best chance to win.

At the end of the day though Dabo is the head coach so imo some things need to be overruled.

I had just hoped that this was not part of some NIL contract.

Agree on Dabo being loyal and have heard the same re: players liking that and that DJ was very much liked by the team. I do think if not developing Cade, not giving him reps with the 1s until late season and giving DJ all the extra reps he had were more Streeter’s ideas, those were heavily flawed decisions.

How this played out, while painful during the season, really was great for Clemson and likely even Brandon Streeter in the end. Lot of media narratives could have made things worse had a mid-season firing occurred (I know Dabo doesn’t do these) or the OC search been dragged out publicly in this post bowl period. Feels like we got out of a bad situation and found a replacement in arguably the best way possible. Go Tigers!

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I agree with most of that, but Streeter got everything possible out of DJ.

We did what we had to do to win 11 games (!) because, well, that was DJs maximum capability.

Some folks seem to feel like we were 7-7 instead of 11-3.

We're 3rd in the country in wins the last 3 seasons!!

Come on man!

Look, Dabo's failure to acknowledge and address the obvious, significant problems with our offense was not only frustrating, but downright insulting. His defensiveness and deflection in that regard was maddening at times. However, that's just how he operates; he's not going to even start down a road that leads nowhere but having to call individuals out and throw coaches and players under the bus. He nips all of that in the bud. I just kept telling myself that the coach whose vision and leadership literally built Clemson into one of the top 2 football programs in the country over the last decade, could not possibly be that blind and would eventually change what needed to be changed when the time was right ... and he did. Every assistand he's had at Clemson has been part of his Clemson "family", and he takes that seriously, and he's fired them before, so I knew he would again if need be.

So, I don't expect Dabo to respond to reporters with "Yeah, coach Streeter sucked the last few games, and if he doesn't get it together, he's gonna be gone", or "DJ has not lived up to the hype, and we've got some capable guys breathing down his neck if he doesn't perform". He's not even going to respond with anything that even hints at that. Instead, he's gonna defend them, and keep any thoughts of major changes quiet until they happen. Right or wrong, that's the way Dabo operates, and I accept it and now that he has made big, needed changes, I'm not gonna get stuck on it.

It appears that you've never led a team or an organization. If you had, you'd know that in the midst of "the fray," or season, the last thing you want to do is create a distraction. Even hinting at dissatisfaction with his Staff would have been just that. The media, and all of Tigernet, would have been incessant in attempts to discover exactly where his dissatisfaction lay and what he intended to do about it. That would have infected both the team and the prospective recruits, both of which are vital to Dabo's success. So he did what every good leader does; he played it close to the vest until it was time to make a change. His making the necessary change should alleviate any concerns that fans seem to have as to whether he still considers Clemson a premier program, or intends for it to be. That's why I object so to the constant criticism of both coaches and players. Nobody involved with Tigernet, including the publishers, has anywhere near the knowledge Dabo has about the program, the Staff and the players. So our choice is to trust him or not. If you don't, you're going to be very frustrated for a long time. That's because Dabo is going to be at Clemson as long as he wants to be. His contract is a matter of public record. The way its written declares boldly that the University never intends to fire him. I, for one, trust him completely. And I believe he's right when he says, "The Best Is Yet To Come!" Go Tigers!

Let’s not dwell on the past; what would have, could have or should have happened. 2022 was last year, 2023 looks much brighter than the last two years. Heck, we even have a BB team. Turn the page, move forward and don’t look back.

Go Tigers !!!

Jan 14, 2023, 11:28 AM

Then you may want to give up on that.

No issues in how Dabo publicly handled the very difficult situation.

Did you know we won 11 games?
