Twenty years ago today I made the greatest decision of my life.

I married my girlfriend of four years. Life wouldn’t be the same. I wouldn’t be a portion of the man I am today. God blessed me with the most wonderful bride a man could ask for. She’s and ECU grad that is converted Tiger. She travels with me over four hours to Death Valley for six games a year. She puts up with everything Clemson all the time on the television. She has been the best mother and grandmother to our son and grands. She has put up with me for 24 years. She deserves an award just for that! Everyone knows a man is only as good as the woman standing beside him. They keep us straight. Today I celebrate the love of my life.

most seem to think that the wedding vows are not "For better or for worse, till death do us part", but are instead "For better or until something better comes along, them I'm OUT of HERE!" They don't want no part of that "worse" scenario. I saw it up close and personal in my own family. My oldest sister was married four times, and my older brother was married three times. Me, my other sister, and my other brother each made do with one time each. They both got married right out of college. It took me until almost the age of 30 to find that one woman who would have me.

Mrs. Percy and I got married basically right out of college. Graduated in May (she did too) and I was dating someone else, broke up with someone else over 4th of July, first date with Mrs Percy in late July, first "I love you" in September, engaged New Year's Eve (the night before the Citrus Bowl vs Oklahoma). Married 6 months later.
Been 35 pretty good years! Made easier by her (and her family's) Clemson fandom.

Best advice that I can give you is hug her tighter each day. Only got 38 and a half years before my wife died and I still feel the void. God Bless You Both!!

I am so sorry to hear that! I can’t imagine life without her. I know it’s cliche but she really is my best friend. She’s everything. I know loss, I lost a daughter about twenty-five years ago. The pain never goes away. We just learn to live with it differently. It’s like a piece of you leaves with them. I pray you continue to have peace and understanding.
