State on Apr. 15 ... played for Florence in the Coastal Plain League in the summer, where he was 0-0 with an 8.59 ERA and 16 strikeouts in 14.2 innings pitched over nine relief appearances.

Before Clemson: Selected to the North Texas High School Baseball Coaches Association All-Star game as a senior ... third-team AAAAA all-state as a senior ... first-team all-district as a senior ... had a 6-1 record, 2.91 ERA, and 61 strikeouts in 50.1 innings pitched along with hitting .460 with four homers and 36 RBIs as a senior ... had a 6-3 record , 2.61 ERA, and 46 strikeouts in 40.2 innings pitched as a junior ... lettered three times in baseball at Carroll Senior High, where he was coached by Larry Hughes.
