Elite WR prospect Tee Higgins mulling over his college choices

Nearly a month after retracting his verbal commitment to Tennessee, four-star 2017 prospect Tee Higgins says he still has no timetable for deciding where he'll play football at the next level.

The 6-foot-4 wide receiver, who plays for Oak Ridge High School in Tennessee, told TigerNet this week that he has yet to whittle down his list of big-time program offers. And despite his decommitment, he said the Volunteers remain very much in the hunt to acquire his skill set.

“I don't know who my top 5 is,” Higgins said by telephone.

He said the Clemson program has captured his attention in large part due to its reputation as “WRU” (Wide Receiver University), with several stellar athletes now reeling in passes in the NFL. Among current Tigers, Higgins pointed to Artavis Scott as a player he particularly enjoys watching. Clemson extended an offer to Higgins in October.

As previously reported here, Higgins visited Clemson on Jan. 30 for Junior Day.

“I like how the coaches are family,” Higgins said. “They treat their players like family.”

Dan Brooks, associate head coach for defensive tackles; Jeff Scott, co-offensive coordinator/wide receivers; and defensive coordinator Brent Venables have been recruiting Higgins.

The junior said he was impressed with the Clemson campus and that academically the university is “near the top” in his prospective major of Communications. Higgins said he hopes to make another visit and plans to attend at least a couple of football camps this summer, including coach Dabo Swinney's Football camp.

While reiterating that he will take his time in deciding where to play at the collegiate level, Higgins stressed the role that his faith will play in that decision. In addition to Clemson and Tennessee, he has offers from Florida State, LSU, Georgia, Miami, Ole Miss, UNC, South Carolina and Virginia Tech.

“It's just wherever my heart leads me, and I just pray to God about it,” Higgins said. “Wherever my heart tells me to go, that's where I'll go.”

As a junior, Higgins had 52 catches for 941 yards and 18 touchdowns.
