New Beatle Book

Yet another book is out as to the Beatles.
The cottage industry as to these kids has made not millions but billions.
I suspect no one has ever been micro examined as much or lied about, speculated about as much.
The obsession with the guys might be more than the obsession with their music.
That says more about than them.

Beatlemania hit the USA in Feb 1964 when I was a high school senior.
All of America was locked in when they appeared on Ed Sullivan.
The "long haired" boys were declared demons by some, bonfires burned their albums.

I was a fan, but like most in the South, preferred James Brown and Frankie Valli. Their main USA competition at the time was the Beach Boys whom I saw in Greenville with my roommate's 12 year old sister as my date.

My Clemson roommate and I got in every album as they came out. We played them on the decent stereo I had gotten for Christmas when I was 14. We both preferred the Supremes back then.

I did not get "into" the Beatles until the early 90's when my life slowed down a lot.
It was then I came to understand how special and different they are.
In context to the era (or not) the music is very good.

Over years collected "mint" copies of their LPs and had them on my man cave wall along with my precious Tams albums.
I had 50 different LPs. For example the same album in stereo and in mono or the same album in the UK release and the USA release. The truth is there are endless Beatle albums but few Beatle songs. Maybe they were worth more than my house? I promised them all to my niece but they burned.
In the 90's all CDs were the UK release, not the USA Capitol version, so I made my own from the LPs's with all art work as even then I was a computer nerd.

I still have most everything (mono and stereo) in digital. Be glad to share with any interested.

I guess I am a fan, not sure.

It is amazing how many famous musicians and bands were inspired to get into rock n roll after watching the Beatles on Ed Sullivan.

Ed Sullivan ruled in the day.
It was the place one could see that new kid Elvis or the Stones, or animals playing pool.

I worked with a gentleman about your age who was a trumpet player in NYC in the 60's. He laughed the Beatles weren't a band - they didn't even have horns in the band.

Yeah, as a big JAZZ fan then and now get that.
James Brown would arrive with lots of horns.

My fav back then as to LPs bought was Bill Justice.

I watched it along with you. Didn't think my Dad was going to let though because pf the "long" hair. A few years later when I went off to college, I had hair just like them. One weekend when I came home with the long hair, the first thing my Dad told me was to go get a haircut before I came in the house and I did.

Bill Walton did the same.

I once had hair on my shoulders during my hippie period. It was a must to get the girls.

I consider the Bob Spitz Beatles Biography to be the final word on the Fab Four.

At least, up until the time it was published in 2005. Two of them were already gone then, and Paul and Ringo are still being Paul and Ringo.

That is the gist of my post.
The personalities later in the news often over ride the music.

As musicians they were OK, not special.
As song writers they were OK, not special.

Considering all the finer points, they were exceptional.

The short time they were a band and how they influenced us all is incredible.

As musicians,

the sum of the parts was greater than the whole. That is what made them a great band. Songwriting, though, is off the charts. Look at the chords and arrangements.

Difference in ages...

Leading up to Christmas '67, I was 8 years old and wanted a turntable and Beatles music. On Christmas Day of '67, I was shocked to receive one of those portable turntables, with two singles and an album, along with one of those stupid Beatles wigs. I spent weeks listening to The Second Album wearing that stupid wig. Best Christmas ever! Then, I found my brother's Rare Earth and Iron Butterfly albums, lol.

It was all over.

Probably the Book of Life and the influence the Beatles had on our lives when they came to America. 😉
