When global oil production in general and US production specifically was still nowhere near pre-pandemic levels?

First of all, the U.S. government is not drilling any oil. The oil companies are drilling oil because Mr. Environmental Biden asked the oil companies to up production because several reasons but the biggest reason is to keep prices down so countries will not buy from Russia. Russia increased oil prices to fund the Ukraine/Russia war but the increased U.S. production has kept the prices "reasonable". If Biden had not relaxed his oil reduction policies gas prices would be approaching the $4 to $5 per gallon range here and other countries would be stepping up to supply the demand at higher oil prices.
There are more reasons for the increased production right now including, believe it or not, environmental.
