Spoke with a current student about the game Saturday
Sep 8, 2015, 3:05 PM
|
|
he said that the student ticket policy had been changed this season and was a disaster. He said that student tickets this year are being sold as general admission tickets for the student section. There are no seat numbers on the tickets anymore only sections and that what seat you get is on a first come basis. However he said that Saturday the University double sold tickets for the student section to the general public and that he and a majority of the other students had to move several times through the game because non-students would come to where they were sitting with tickets for the exact section and seat they were in and that the stadium workers told them they (the students) would just have to find another seat. A good number of the students got so annoyed after moving several times that they just left the game. He also said since it was general admission seating that most of the students in the lower section all crammed into the far left section which is why it appeared the student section in the lower bowl to be so empty even at the beginning of the game.
I know that there has been a lot of anger towards the student section after Saturday over attendance so I thought I would pass along that there was other issues involved to the lack of students other than them just wanting to go get drunk.

That's... partially true. The new ticketing system is a disaster and a total failure in my opinion, but I didn't hear anything about non-students in student sections. I think that would be pretty much impossible, since the students are sitting in the same sections they always have. However, with the way the university has been handling certain things recently, it wouldn't surprise me if they found another way to screw the students over.

He said that's what they thought as well and even asked the guys if they could see there tickets thinking they were just in the wrong place. But the tickets were for the sections they were in, which are the same student sections as always, and that the non-student tickets were for those same sections.

That is a student section, but the top 15 or so rows are season ticket holders.

be frustrating to deal with.
In totality though, there was an entire corner of the stadium that was full and then emptied out after halftime....and ticket policy isn't to blame.
I personally don't care if they leave and don't come back but also lol at blaming it on anything other than college kids being college kids.

So does that mean that there were 95-100k tickets sold
Sep 8, 2015, 3:34 PM

for Wofford? If a sell out is 85k including students and you add the what, 10-15k student tickets that were sold twice, you have some kind of pent up demand for Clemson Football.
Maybe it is time to close in the Upper Deck above The Hill.

He still has the option to get a ticket with his class, may want to tell him that.
But other than that he must have tried to get his ticket around 5:55 on Sunday because I'm in the the IPTAY CC and I got my ticket just fine.

Let's see the ticket office sells the season tickets so they should not what seats are not sold and then "give away" the unsold seats to the students with a section/row and seat number just like everyone else.

Just cause some students leave at halftime during relatively big leads, like they do at every college in the nation, doesn't mean they don't show up.
The stigma on this board about our students is sickening sometime.

We did in the early '80's - I kept the stubs to the big games we went to and I and my E6'ers had specific seats in B/UB and C/UC...when did this change to sectional "scramble" seating???

Isn't IPTAY responsible for ticket allocation, not the University? Don't get me wrong... I wish the University was but I think IPTAY makes all those kinds of choices. (My suspicion is based on the existence of the "Collegiate IPTAY Club" and the fact that their members get preferential treatment over students that do not belong...which i think is criminal)
One way to solve the student attendance problem would be to track them better. Log them in and out of the games. Those that come and stay would be rewarded with better seats at the next game.

As I recall back in the late '50s and early '60s as students we always had good seats and they were numbered as to section, row, and seat. We would line up sometime about the middle of the week to get tickets. You would get one ticket that came with your school admission and then you could purchase one Date ticket. Anyone remember, am I wrong?

As a Student

The general admission idea is awful. The first problem during the game was that my friends showed up 10 minutes before kick off to an empty section (TDB) and got decent seats. Once other people started filing in we just kept getting pushed further down the row by people coming 20 minutes late. I let the first couple of people slide but without a predetermined seat what am I supposed to say? The other problem is with my ticket this week, which is one section over. When you go to select a section to sit in (much like you do on stubhub) you can only select the top few rows of the middle sections, when I know darn well 5 rows below me are season ticket holders. The problem with this is, the ticket you print out says its general admission to the whole section! It doesn't specify that it's only the top couple rows. I think this is part of the problem people were having with "double ticketing".
That is all. Go Tigers!

My son is a student at Clemson and gets tickets, but doesn't use them because he doesn't care for football. With this change in how the tickets are done, can I just use his ticket and sit in his stead?

Well that stinks. I'm all for a program that allows parents to go when their student won't take advantage of the ticket...you know, since we are assisting with tuition and all.
