See that torn hole below the seat wiring?

That ripped metal was once where an arm of the window regulator was mounted. Some maroon, who owned this car before me (idiot brother) didn't let off the up and down buttons when the glass stopped the movement. MB used Bosch motors which were very powerful and put no stops on them.

I will enjoy cutting around that hole and forming a piece of metal to that shape, drilling a proper hole in it and then welding it in place.

A guy who worked in construction all his life decides to try and master the technical aspects of a classic Mercedes to restore a 40 year old car starts sharing intimate details of the many issues he faces...you're jealous!

Is it that I actually own a very rare car, have the energy and will to get this 70+ yr/o body out of bed everyday and go spend 6-8 hours doing very physical labor, or just refuse to sit on a lazy butt until I die like most 70+ year olds?

Brother, you're going on my prayer list.

the easy way to fix this is to take a washer with the same radius as the circular portion of that cone shaped bottom and score around the washer then use a die grinder to open that hole to the diameter of the washer.

A small magnet on the back of the metal will hold the washer in place while I tack-weld it. If I keep most of the heat of the arc on the washer it won't blow holes in the body. With all those bends and breaks in the metal it won't distort too much.

I'll need to find a bolt to match the original with a little longer threaded area but I kept all the bolts off the donor car so it's just a matter of picking the right one.

This post serves as a document which I can find even if all my electronic devices fail. The photos of most of my work are on the test forum.

Those window motors tore out 19 ga steel. I'm fixing this once. No redneck engineering on this doll.

I'm not stopping to do minor repairs now.

I'm noting the issue with the camera and posting the photos in the test forum. I'll post a few each day in replies to the OP and keep it on top of the stack. I'm also loading them into the cloud and probably will download them to a pin drive, I have a handful of 64gb to 2Tb usb storage units.
