You want to blame CBB for tonight's loss, then focus on this

Tigernet will become overrun with silly statements of "There is no reason Clemson should lose to...." or "We need Coach OP back." Just the drivel of the Clemson Bas-Football First, then Recruiting, then Baseball -ketball crowd posts.
Makes no sense. I read a silly post of someone blaming Coach BB for a posible regression of PJ Hall. The same player who started hurt this season and was limited with playing time. They stated that his stats were down. Hmmm? Blame that on coaching. But wait? Hunter Tyson is playing the best of his career. Truly lights out. Is that due to Coach BB?
For this loss to UVA, of which I gave Clemson a 20% chance to win tonight, here is where I will blame COach BB for:
(1) He did not manage the game smartly in terms of calling Time Out earlier in the first half and earlier in second half.
(2) He did not manage players' emotions and chaos during the game. He should have settled a few of them down. PJ was rushing shots when he drove hard to the basket in first 14 minutes of the game. Chase was rattled becaue UVA's point guard was pestering the crap out of Chase. Tyson was way off from three. The team look rushed, frantic and trying to do too much.
(3) I felt that game was going to be decided by less than 7 points. So I was wrong as it was exactly 7 points. UVA plays stifling defense. They were not going to wilt and let a team beat them by 10+ at home after their recent losses. Clemson had played way about average offenively in last two games. That would not continue.
This team needed to avoid stupid mistakes early, but they didn't: idiotic passes, bad dribbling, missed opportunities. We saw UVA get six points in first half off of Clemson players not playing loose and relaxed. Just frantic miscues. There were others throughout the game.
My main gripe with Brownell is that he appears to take a hands off approach to managing players' internally during the games. He does not seem to be able to raise and lower the temperature when he needs to or readjust the players so they will play tougher or looser.
That is why Clemson lost tonight. The team was too tight, too frantic. They are young kids who are experiencing this for the first time. This was a big game with a lot riding on it. I did not feel that Coach BB managed the players well tonight.
I do not like Coach BB's lassiez-faire attitude towards thinking these kids need to figure it out. I beieve that he needs to coach and teach and lead them in that moment. Mainly because they have not been there before.

Nine other ACC teams left Charlottesville with a loss this year, Louisville will make it 10 Saturday. Tough to win there. Only top 5 Houston has won on that court this year… proud of the fight in this team, especially being down 14.

I think 9 other ACC teams left Louisville with a win, though. But not Clemson.
Losing to UVA would have been one to just chalk up to being beaten by a better team. But losing the LSV (and Loyola-Chicago) are what will keep us out of the NCAAT.
My complaints about coaching today are largely the same as for those inexcusable losses: too many jacked 3s with no hope of rebounding a miss. A coach can say "Next guy who takes a bad 3 can come sit next to me on the bench for a few minutes."
Also, once it became clear time was our enemy, we did NOTHING to try to speed Uva up, allowing them to run off 28 or 29 seconds for several possessions. And then we'd slow-walk up the court, dribble around for 10 more seconds, then miss a shot with 3 on the shot clock--played right into their hands.
I was frustrated by this game, but this game is not a reason I think CBB needs to be moved on. The reason for that is all the other games we lost this year that we never should have lost...the ones that are going to keep us out of the NCAAT.
The roller coaster of CBBs tenure, all the games lost to absolutely dismal teams WAY more offset the few fantastic wins his teams manage to pull off.

Why keep harping on the loss at Louisville?

It was one game out of 30+ we play this year.
We’ve won far more than we’ve lost, which is rarely the case in our over 100 years of basketball at Clemson.

One other rather large stat factored in... the two guys wearing whistles. 22 free throws for UVA and 5 for Clemson. A little one-sided. Other than that, we outshot them from the floor, outshot them from behind the arc, had roughly the same number of turnovers and rebounds.

We gave them 6 or so at the end with the intentional fouling.

funny that three turnovers in the first half were made by a sub right after they were put in the game. just kept the air out of things too much. an ugly uva team got confidence. but the tigers look as good as any team now if they can get someone else to contribute on offense. i’m guessing hemenway could really help this team next week.

I think its because he stands there with his hands on his hips all the time. Needs notes to coach and never smiles

My problem is not with the Virginia loss. My problem is that BB let it come down to needing to win that game to get in the NCAA. With wins against SC, Loyola, and Louisville, we would not be having this conversation. BC is getting better as the season progresses. Clemson is not.

No, he didn’t “let” it happen.

We got great looks when we played Loyola Chicago and Louisville, from multiple players. It isn’t Brad’s fault that they uncharacteristically missed more shots than normal those games.
It’s basketball. It happens.

The problem is that it "happens" too often at Clemson. It might "happen" less often with a better coach.
