some time. It should be about college academics and the student part of "student-athlete" first. I understand that money drives everything, but it can be highly profitable and entertaining, while still adhering to the proper academic/student priorities. We are rapidly, unapologetically moving away from that.

So true. I'm surprised to hear this from other TNetters. I've been saddened by the total lack of emphasis on academics. It is all about $$$. I know Clemson tries to focus on academics, and prides itself on graduation rates and GPA. But with so much distance learning these days, I wonder if tutors or others are helping student-athletes too much. Regular students, non-athletes, who post high SAT scores struggle to graduate on time or at all, yet many of our athletes graduate in 3 years. Are universities enabling student-athletes too much?

academics, and still struggle somewhat. My hat is off to any college athlete who can legitimately manage the tremendous load and commitment required to pull off both. When we see so many athletes on social media who can't even spell or construct a sentence at a 5th grade level, we know for a fact that something is very wrong, yet we turn our heads and pretend everything is fine.

Good point. Many of these studrnt-ATHLETES do not come across as very well educated. Makes you wonder how the stay in college, much less graduate and graduate early.

I heard Lamar speaking the other day. This dude will be the NFL MVP most likely and speaks at a middle school level imo. This is where we are now.

They graduate in 3 years because most of them ain't taking a full academic load...look at the majors of graduates...we never even have heard of those...they are everywhere...looked at TAMU graduates...only about 2/3 graduate and they had 70% of some coursework could be taken online! What a joke..student athlete we say!

college sports can graduate in 3 years. There is simply not enough time. I can’t even imagine!! I know these kids have social lives too - probably more so than I had and I didn’t play varsity sports. Practice, weights, film study, meetings, community outreach activities, traveling to away games… when is the time for studying? Tutoring? Research papers? Group projects? There’s simply no way these kids should be able to graduate in 3 years. It’s a joke, honestly.

No difference in the game, the best players on the best teams win. The difference is just in the minds of some people who cannot accept the status quo. Football is what is.

Agreed. This sky is falling mentality is annoying but it’s the same people that say America is terrible.
Just a miserable life some people have.

Thinking College Football is heading in a good direction indicates a general lack of awareness.
Thinking America is doing great and labeling anyone who doesn't agree as "miserable" indicates an epic lack of understanding. About everything.
When did TNET get infested with so many stupid people?

It was scummy back in the day. The recruitments of Herschel and Marcus Dupree were kept under wraps by the NCAA. ESPN finally did the 30 on 30 on OU. You won’t see the same for SEC member UGA about Vince Dooleys career of shady recruiting.

It was worse in the late 70’s - 90’s because it was all hidden but the best players were getting paid.

It was bad at SCAR when McGuire recruited subpar students from NY. Not all were subpar studennts. John Roche was not one of the subpar students. But Jack Thompson was one.

I still watch the games, but quit keeping up with the CFB news

Like someone else said, the game hasn't changed. I watched several of the bowl games and enjoyed them. The playoffs were great. The championship game was really good until the 4th when UM pulled away.
The game hasn't changed. Yes, the players have, the rules have, etc. But the game is still the same. I enjoyed seeing how much fun the guys had after their bowl wins - whether it was the PopTart Bowl, Cheez-It Bowl, or whatever. The only thing I didn't like was the poor fan turn-out, but with prices as high as they are, and so many non-CFP and NY6 games falling on weekdays, it makes sense.
I'll always be a college football fan. There are still lots of great stories - like our kicker, Weitz, who had to be one of the best stories of the year in CFB. I just don't keep up with the news/reporting as much. Portal, schmortal. Just line up whoever you got and snap the ball!

If this feeling is widespread...

...How will ESPN be able to make these huge payouts in 3-4-5 years. Cable is a dinosaur and reduced cable viewership will mean much lower "sports fees". That leaves advertising to generate revenue and when viewership declines, so will advertising dollars...Wonder how will ESPN make what they've promised given ESPN and Disney are in financial straits..?
